I had a very unfortunate encounter with the owner of this store.I walked in to buy water. The owner and (presuming his son/nephew) saw me. They exchanged a few words to each other while gesturing at me. The younger man re-positioned himself on the other side of the store so they could both watch me.When I got to the beverage isle (both of them staring at me), none of the items had prices listed. I wasn't about to let them arbitrarily raise the price on me or pay something I felt was unfair, plus... I didn't appreciate the atmosphere they've created. So, without touching a thing... I turned and left. When I got to the door, the owner stops me. He asks me why I'm not buying anything and I have to explain that I changed my mind. He points his finger at me says, "I know where you work!"He took this to a level that was needlessly personal. For no reason. If you're a darker skinned person, your presence is unwanted here, you'll be followed, and be asked to explain yourself.

Great selection of Turkish and international products! Had to pick up some weirdly specific last minute ingredients on Thanksgiving afternoon and they were open and had everything I needed!

We are extremely lucky to have this wonderful, international market in a neighborhood that still skews heavily North American. The owner redesigned the store and added sidewalk plants, tables and books. You can buy foods from all along the Med., including bulgar, grape leaves, fresh figs, and tahinah. Everyone who works there is friendly and they have the most affordable and genuine cup of coffee in the area. With QVFM at this end of the block and Alyan's anchoring the other end, 4th Street is a mecca if you are homesick for the Med. or just love Middle Eastern food.
