Rosenbach, a renowned antiquarian bookseller, established this museum, which houses an impressive collection of rare and historically significant objects, including the manuscript of James Joyce's "Ulysses," the papers of Marianne Moore, early versions of "The Canterbury Tales," and a remarkable array of Conrad's manuscripts, as well as a top-notch Lewis Carroll collection and the autograph notes to Bram Stoker's "Dracula." While not all of these treasures are on display, the museum often features exhibitions showcasing some of its prized possessions, and visitors are welcome to consult the collections by calling ahead or filling out an online form. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and visitors are encouraged to keep an eye out for the annual Burns Night celebration on January 25th, which features excellent music, recitations, and traditional Scottish fare. This is an enjoyable guided tour with a likable guide. The admission fee is pretty reasonable as far as Philadelphia goes. Very nice lounge for visitors.

This is one of my favorite museums in Philadelphia. It is a hidden gem. If you are a fan of rare books, this is the place to visit. There are also beautiful decorative arts in this one of a kind house museum. Taking a tour with the incredibly knowledgeable guides is a must.
