If you want cold, sterile and unhelpful- go anywhere else. If you want to be treated like a valuable human, Stanley's is the place to go.
When you walk in, they ask how they can help you. When you tell them, they will explain any other supplies you may need as well. They are the perfect consultants. We also had an antique lamp that required some repairs. Someone else wanted to take it home as a side project. It came out far better than we expected.
On top of hiring locals and having staff who have been around for ages, it's a breath of fresh air going in there. I can't recommend them enough.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years and have been going to this store for years for various household needs and even though my dad knows a couple of the employees due to either working with them previously or being on a softball team with them they don’t always recognize my face which is fine, but even the ones That do not know my dad are always so helpful and responsive. I just wanted to point that out in this review that not only are they a very reasonable hardware store but their staff is one of the best hardware store staff that I know of.

Stanley’s is the best around. They have a lot with bigger building materials too. What really makes them excellent though is the staff. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. Home Depot should pay to have their staff train here.

I feel like I'm back in time when you didn't need an aisle expert that's on lunch break (HD/Lowe) to help you figure out a repair. Also nabbed a good deal on paint supplies. Lastly, an item I recently bought (now regrettably) on Amazon was the same price here, so what's not to like.

Honestly....Stanley's is the best hardware store, that I've found, in the city. Yes, their prices can be a bit higher due to the smaller quantities of items they buy. Yes, they do not have as large of a selection of certain items, say plants/herbs/veggies as even their fellow True Value locations in the burbs like Holod's. But the staff are helpful, actually understand what they sell and talk about, and will answer any and every question you have without ever making you feel stupid, ignorant, or intimidated. Honestly, although they just rebuilt and expanded the location a decade or less ago due to their success, I wouldn't mind seeing them move, even if met a few more minutes in a car, to an even bigger location (not sure where that could be) so they could carry even more stuff. Heck, I'd drive an additional 20-30 minutes they're that good and reliable and trustworthy.

I had an unpleasant experience. I ran in to grab a couple of items. I stopped at the front to ask a guy in a neon shirt where I could find an item. When I said “excuse me” he responded with “yea” with a sarcastic tone and didn’t look up until he answered the question. He was apparently a cashier but I wouldn’t have know that because he watched me get in the line across from his and then he suddenly was open when a white woman walked up. He then proceed to turn around and stare at me as I completed my transaction. He made me uncomfortable and he was giving racist vibes. The cashier who checked me out was friendly. They are a bit overpriced.
