412 Food Rescue

Community Services/Non-Profits
Hours: 412 Food Rescue is a fantastic organization in the Pitt area that focuses on redirecting surplus food to people in need, combating food waste and preventing unnecessary carbon emissions. It is a powerful way to help get fresh, nutritious food to people instead of it getting wasted. Volunteers describe it as a great way to give back to the local community and the definition of helping your neighbor. The organization is super organized and the people truly care about their mission. They know Pittsburgh like the back of their hand. For volunteers, the process is easy through their great and friendly app, which makes it simple to schedule and complete rescues, whether doing home deliveries or other pickups. Both the folks you pick up from and deliver to are grateful. Businesses with food to donate are encouraged to call, and the organization is always looking for more volunteers to help with rescues, which can involve large quantities of food that would otherwise be thrown away.
