Hours: Persad Center, the nation's second oldest licensed mental health center, was founded in 1972 to serve the LGBTQ+ community. Started by a group of gay activists in Allegheny County, the center was created in response to the demand for specialized, nondiscriminatory services expressed by LGBTQ+ individuals. The staff at Persad Center are widely praised for their knowledge, patience, and empathy. The clinical admin manager, Tammie, is described as having a welcoming and warm voice, making clients feel valued. The facility is described as nice and super welcoming, with an amazing staff from the front desk to the therapists. Persad Center is seen as a safe and trustworthy place for the LGBTQ+ community to be themselves. Many clients express gratitude for the support and resources provided, including a wonderful pantry that the public can donate to. However, some clients have reported difficulties in reaching the center and getting connected with a therapist in a timely manner.
