This is must visit and tour for anyone living or visiting Pittsburgh. The tour took about 2 and a half hours. The guide was excellent at explaining the process and the toll that the job took on its employees. One cannot fully appreciate the history of Pittsburgh without understanding how the steel was produced.

From Rivers of Steel: Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark
Rivers of Steel: Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark preserves one of the most iconic furnaces that operated in Pittsburgh during the Big Steel era of the 20th century. Historical, industrial tours of the site are offered seasonally, but there many more experiences offered, from arts-based tours, workshops, and exhibitions to a drive-in style movie night, called the Carrie Carpool Cinema. More ways to take in the sights behind Pittsburgh's industrial past include a visit to Rivers of Steel's museum and visitors' center at the Bost Building or a stop by the historic Pump House, located in nearby Homestead and Munhall. Our site also serves as a venue for weddings and events. Plan to experience Pittsburgh's past in a new way!
