Walk past the park by the entrances and head on down the trail , keep going and going. You’ll reach the pavilion. Best sunset and sunlight I ever came across

Probably one of the best Parks I've been in. The new bridge is excellent and the park has a pool, a nature cabin and an observatory ..
Excellent

Various walking/biking trails, playground, spaces to rent for events and it has a clean and pretty landscape that is well maintained.
Dog-friendliness: There are 2 dog parks, one for smaller dogs and the other is for larger dogs. Ample space for dogs to run and play and there are benches to sit. Many also walk around the park with their pups, or through the trails. Many options. There are also people and dog water fountains at the dog park area.

Riverview Park offers amazing views and peaceful spots to relax, with plenty of trails and pavilions nestled into the woods. It’s a nice place to escape to in the city. The scenery is nice but not breathtaking. It’s a good place for a quiet day outdoors. Do note that you cannot see the river from the park very well as the title may suggest.
However, be cautious if visiting closer to sunset, as there are sometimes suspicious vehicles and people around. Additionally, the roads in the park are in rough shape—bumpy and poorly maintained. In some spots, the road even looks like it’s falling off the cliff, so drive carefully.
In regard to the other city parks, Schenley, Frick, and Highland Parks are all better in my eyes.
Playground: Yes
Toilets: Port-a-potty behind activities building.
Dog-friendliness: Leashes needed. Dog parks present.
Picnic area: Scattered around park

Riverview is a Great City of Pittsburgh Public Park. Well-marked trails for people, pets and pedals are along a circular road on a long grade. Stone and wood picnic shelters for rent are throughout the park. Each has a fire ring, lighting, and access to nearby open fields for games. The park also has a swimming pool with a small entry fee. This park is only about 3 - 4 miles from downtown.

With the name River there in the title of this park, it would seem to suggest that it’s at least somehow proximate to the river, but not even close. Actually it’s located at a high elevation point well inland with a great perch looking down on most of the city…, include the rivers below. We explored the park and it’s got some nice trails. Not too crowded and pretty well maintained. Maybe one negative is that we couldn’t find a bathroom, just one porta potty
Playground: Yes
Toilets: Porta potty
Dog-friendliness: Two separate leash free areas - for large and small dogs
