Tools are reasonably priced. With out paying for the big name brand. Warranty is actually better than name brand. Baure seems to hold up pretty good!

I purchased a Pittsburgh 3-ton jack from HF in January. I went to use it for the second time yesterday, and found that the u-joint release mechanism that is supposed to allow you to release at any handle angle actually only functions if you have the handle all of the way down and use pliers to pull the release mechanism out (it is too short to reach the handle). It seems like it broke on the first use.
Even though I barely used the jack, HF would not exchange it because it only comes with a 90-day warranty and I didn't pay $45 (almost a third of the jack's cost) for the extended warranty. I had always heard that HF was good about standing behind their products, but clearly, that is only if you pay them extra to do so. Jacks from AutoZone and even Walmart come with at least a 1-year warranty!
I have figured out HF's business model: they advertise a low sticker price but charge you extra for basics that every other retailer just includes, so that you end up paying the same or more than you would elsewhere. Harbor Freight is the Spirit Airlines of tools, so buyer seriously beware.
