The Uptown Theater, formerly known as the Columbus Theatre, is a historic and charming venue located at 270 Broadway in Providence, RI. Opened in 1926, it has a rich history of hosting diverse performances and has recently been lovingly restored by new owners who aim to honor its legacy while bringing new programming. The theater offers a cozy, old-school atmosphere that appeals to those supporting small, independent venues. Visitors appreciate the intimate setting, especially in the attic space, which provides a unique experience. The venue features a friendly staff, a cash-only bar with an ATM, and generally easy parking nearby. Though the upstairs seats are narrow and can be warm, many find it to be a great place for shows, with good sound and a theater-style layout that makes for a close, engaging experience. The overall ambiance and efforts to preserve its historic charm make it a favorite for performances, offering a vibrant arts hub in the community.
Such a great local venue. I want to raise money for more comfortable chairs upstairs!

The theater where the teacher's wife worked in the Hachi movie. Good place to take photos

The seating could be more comfortable, but they get talent that you don’t see elsewhere and it is a fabulous old theatre that I hope will be around forever.
