After an incredibly frustrating experience of being bounced between departments—member services, the loan department, and everywhere in between—I was fortunate enough to be connected with Peley from the SCU Live department. Unlike the others I spoke to, Peley demonstrated outstanding active listening skills, quickly grasped the nuances of my issue, and navigated the systems with remarkable efficiency.
What had started to feel like an inevitable financial disaster was completely turned around by Peley’s competence, professionalism, and calm demeanor. His ability to wear multiple hats and handle a complex situation with ease was nothing short of impressive.
Peley is a true asset to the organization. If every representative provided the level of service he did, customer satisfaction would skyrocket. We need more employees like him—dedicated, sharp, and solution-oriented.

The security guard at the front could demonstrate more customer service than he does..I can tell there’s a sense of disdain for his working environment nearing 5:00PM - I think he would be a lot happier if his shift ended an hour before closing. I work until 4:30PM each day; therefore, I try to get there when I can. For the second time in a row, he’s pressing me about the time. I walked in at 4:56p to retrieve my license (that was left from the previous week) and he proceeds to tell me “it’s getting late..a license???” as if it was an absurd reason to be visiting the bank. It took me approximately 30 SECONDS to get my license from the loan officer I was working with last Friday. As I proceeded to walk out & held my license up (for proof), he’s questioning me - “How do you leave a license here..how can someone take your license??” when I explained I was working on a loan and it wasn’t given back during the time. I would give this location a 1 star; however, due to Nikole’s (loan officer) warm personality and exemplary customer service, I’ll give my experience more stars. Due to security at the front, I will most likely opt to visit another location for future service.

I have always had excellent service at this location. Not today. I took my lunch break to go and resolve an issue with my card. I sat in the lobby for at least 15 minutes, being acknowledged by no one other than the security guard. There were two employees clearly on lunch themselves as they talked and laughed in one of the offices with the door open. I don't think customer service folks should be allowed to take a lunch break at 12:00 as that is a time when others are on lunch and can run errands to get things done. I was very surprised that the other lady did not at least acknowledge my presence as she has always been wonderful in the past. I got tired of waiting and left. I like to deal with a person face to face. But I guess I will have to resort to calling the customer service number instead.

After being jerked around with financing at an rv dealership, I contacted SC State Credit Union to see if they could assist my husband and I with getting an rv financed.
I am not new to SCSCU and have banked with them ever since I started my own bank account back in 1998. I filled out the application and not even an hour later I was getting a call from Nikole Ritchey to get additional information from me. After working everything up, she got our pre-approval amount (in no time). She told me to let her know when we found the one we wanted. I emailed her the information on the one we decided we wanted and from that point on, it was smooth sailing.
Nikole stayed in contact with me throughout the whole process, she worked very diligently in getting us approved, accommodated a time that worked for both my husband and I to come in and sign the paperwork and we were able to also pick up our check at that same time to take to a new RV dealer (because the other one was still jerking us around even with our own financing). I never once had to call her first to find out anything as she stayed on top of EVERYTHING! Nikole worked very hard from beginning to end to assist us with getting our anniversary present to each other in a timely manner. As a matter of fact, we paid for our camper on Friday, picked it up on Saturday and were out at the state park by Saturday afternoon.
We are extremely thankful for Nikole's hard work and assistance! I highly recommend not only State Credit Union on Huger Street, but Nikole Ritchey as well. We are forever grateful to her, especially after being given the run around with the 1st rv place. ❤️

I used SCU for my recent auto purchase and couldn’t have been happier. My loan officer, Jessica, did a great job communicating with me and answering all of my questions. The entire process took less than 48 hours. I would highly recommend using them for any banking needs!

I've been with my current credit union for over 30 years, and now living in a different state I decided to open an account with a local credit union. The reviews were decent so I decided to try SC State CU and while my experience was limited, it was terrible. Spent over a month trying to open an account, multiple attempts to follow-up were unsuccessful, and customer service was polite but unhelpful. It seemed like everyone I talked to was inept and couldn't answer questions without talking to someone else, and even then the answers were not correct or changed.I now feel like I dodged a bullet and I can't imagine using a financial institution with such poor service, especially after thinking of the large wire and ach transfers that I have done through my current CU for without issue. I will be taking my business elsewhere and filing a complaint with the NCUA about this experience.

after visiting 2 branches with no resolution shelly shealy helped me out within seconds! she was very informative and was a great help! huger street always seems to solve my issues instantly. courtney was also very helpful in assisting me with questions and helping me out. thank you to these 2 ladies !

I have been a member since 2012, so the experiences I have had over the last few months with SCSCU have been very discouraging and beyond frustrating. However, I cannot recommend anyone consider being a customer of or doing business with SCSCU due to my experiences these past few months after fraudulent charges were made on a credit card I have through SCSCU.In April 2023, I had fraudulent charges on my SCSCU credit card. After receiving text messages of suspicious transactions that occurred very quickly in succession, I confirmed that they were fraudulent and received an automated notice to call a number provided. I immediately called the number that night and advised the representative of the fraudulent charges that I noticed due to the text alerts I had received. I was advised that they would initiate a dispute as one of the charges did go through before the others, which were declined before I received the text message. I then did not hear anything for weeks. I called Member Services in May 2023 and requested an update. I was told that the dispute was ongoing and that there was nothing for me to do. After still receiving no information, I again requested an update from Member Services in June 2023 and July 2023. Both times, I was told the same thing as the first check-in; namely, that it was ongoing and there was nothing for me to do. In late July, I called again and was transferred three times before finally speaking with someone who stated that the dispute was not initiated until June in their system. I advised that I called immediately after receiving notification of the charge in April 2023 and was advised that a dispute had been initiated. I was then told that the dispute would be “escalated” since it was not entered until 2 months after I notified them. To date, almost 4 months later, I have received no resolution to this or a refund of the amount of the fraudulent charge despite my multiple calls and the “escalation” on their end. When I asked about this in April and May of 2023, I was advised to pay the bill if I could and that a refund would be initiated later after the dispute was resolved.

I am writing this review because of an outstanding experience I had with resolving two issues with my credit union. One issue was a check that I needed to stop payment because it was never received and the other was to resolve my issue with not being able to do online banking with my acct. information. Ms. Madelyn Lewis went above and beyond to assist me. She was professional, knowledgeable,thoughtful and thorough throughout the intervention. She was AWESOME and made my day! It helps to have staff who take the time to listen and address the customers needs. I highly recommend this credit union.Sincerely,ACBailey
