Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve is a scenic destination on Folly Island, ideal for viewing the iconic Morris Island Lighthouse, enjoying surf fishing, and taking beachside strolls. Visitors appreciate the diverse wildlife observation and birding opportunities, with organized bird walks frequently taking place. The preserve features captivating views of the ocean and marsh, making it a great spot for photography. Accessing the preserve involves a bit of a trek, with limited parking available. The walk is approximately half a mile, primarily along a graffiti-filled road, leading to sandy terrain that can be challenging, especially in hot weather. However, the effort is rewarded with stunning views of the lighthouse and unique driftwood pieces scattered across the beach. Many visitors note the area's unusual beauty, characterized by old trees and a peaceful atmosphere. This location is suggested for those seeking privacy, as it tends to be less crowded. Visitors are encouraged to bring food and drinks, as no shops are nearby. The preserve's charm, along with the possibility of dolphin sightings and breathtaking sunsets, makes it a memorable experience for nature lovers and adventurers alike.
A little walk to get to but worth it! We couldn't see the lighthouse too much due to fog, but the natural beach is beautiful!!

We came in late March. The water is cold enough, no swimmers.
If you want calmer waters then go to the end of the beach towards the lighthouse. This area has the most calm beach and waves. It requires ~0.5 mile walk down an artistically graffitied sidewalk.

Easy parking, little walk but magnificent views and the driftwood trees make for great pictures
