Charge overdraft fees for a debit that is supposed to be at the end of the month. They do not recognize a "leap year" so overdrafts are charged a day prior. They do not take the calendar seriously. Not banking with them again.

Was great when it was First Federal of Charleston. Knew all the tellers for years. South State took over and the service with a smile and friendly people went out the window.

They put a 9 day hold on my paycheck not once but twice. I have never had my PAY CHECK FROM WORK have a hold put on it especially 9 days! The teller took the hold off but told me if the money bounces it’s my responsibility and my account will be negative poor customer service and banking. I will be switching banks asap.

I use the ATM at this location about once a month when I'm up in Summerville for an appointment next door. I've never been inside or used the drive through except for the ATM only. Besides having to wait in line because their ATMs ask WAY too many questions, the machine always has money and I leave here with what I came for.

I have never worked with a local bank that does not accept phone calls from customers. When dialing the “local” branch I was routed to a call center. The helpful young lady took my information and said she would pass it along to the bank and ask someone to return my call. What BS! I have no use for this local bank and will be closing my account as soon asMy call is retuned.

Absolutely horrible. Warning they will randomly hold your money for seven days sometimes. It’s crazy. When you call them to ask why they cannot give you an answer. I would give zero stars if that was an option.

So I have had accounts with south State bank for many years now. I have a credit card through them that I made every payment on time and paid it off early. I've never bounced a check or overdrawn. I know I have good credit. I went there recently to apply for a car loan. I cant remember the lady's name but it started with a M. She was very nice and helpful. Anyway we did the application and she said she would call me in an hour. They denied my car loan because of delinquent payments. The only thing I have is unpaid medical bills which I thought didn't count against your credit. I think it's pretty ridiculous that I didn't get approved. They can see my account's and tell that I keep a decent amount in my account and I pay all my Bill's on time. So basically it's there loss.. I got a car loan through someone else with a pretty good interest rate. I'm just disappointed that the bank I've been using for at least 15 years couldn't give me a 10,000 car loan. Pretty sad. But thank you to the lady that tried.

I went to this bank on June 23, 12 days ago, to discuss opening a large money market account. When I entered, the only non-teller employee there had someone in her office talking w him. They both remained seated the entire time. From my perspective, it appeared to be all talk. There was one other customer waiting ahead of me. After 15 mins, she left saying something about it taking too long. Just then, another bank employee came in, opened another office, put her purse in it, and, appearing to know the person in the other woman’s office, went in to join the conversation. For the next 15 mins, I saw what appeared to be nothing but a social conversation. The second woman remained standing as all three talked and laughed. After 15 mins, I got up, paced near the door and finally left in disgust. I can understand the second woman going in to say hi for a couple of minutes but, with customers waiting, I found this customer service experience to be completely unsatisfactory. It was no surprise that when I googled this bank location that they already have a 1.9 Google review rating. And I’ve since found two other local folks who said this particular bank has a horrible reputation. Don’t bother w a typical “we’re sorry you had a bad experience” remark. You need a new branch manager .

All bankers and tellers have gone above and beyond to ensure my bank accounts are managed correctly. I have several businesses and therefore several bank accounts and they have given me no problem about opening free accounts, transferring money, keeping a $0 balance in some accounts, etc. Very thankful!

Incredibly slow, average 15 minutes per car in drive through. 14 cars currently in two lanes, let's be honest, this is not a difficult job.

Seriously, I have to come to this location atleast once a week. I regularly go to 4 different locations around the charleston area and dont have this problem. 30 minutes for 2 cars when the inside is not an option is absolutely not acceptable! Every damn time!
