With the recent adoption of our newest dog, Dwayne, I decided to look elsewhere for his care. I took a chance with Town and Country based upon their online reviews and am please to say they really are 5 out of 5 stars- would give them more stars if I could. They sincerely care, and they actually listen. More importantly, their bedside manners as veterinarians are top-notch, treating each pet like a valued member of their own family. A recent emergency visit affirmed my belief that we found the care we needed and wanted, and look forward to many years of continued care.
We truly appreciate the responsiveness and concern during our late night emergency visit- I am sure I was more shaken up than our dog and sincerely value how they treated me as a pet parent with concerns.

She's been seen twice by our vet back home, we just needed to make sure we weren't backsliding. We got an appointment the same day, saw Dr. Shipman who examined her thoroughly, and discussed what to do, what to look for, possible options about future treatment etc. great bedside manner. Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic
1571 SD-44, Rapid CityI have been taking my pets to Dakota Hills Vet for over 25 years. After reading some of the reviews, I wanted to share my perspective as someone who has a very long history with this clinic.
Are they expensive? Yes. But I also believe you get what you pay for. Have mistakes been made over the years? Yes. One of my pets was given the wrong dose of antibiotics, and I believe it ultimately contributed to us having to put him down when his infection worsened. He was 11. Would I see that particular veterinarian again? No, although I don’t believe she is still there.
Have a couple of the veterinarians seemed curt at times? Yes. We all have bad days. I have also had a frustrating interaction with front desk staff. When I was trying to confirm medication management for my Lab with seizures, I felt dismissed rather than having my concern passed along to the veterinarian. It didn’t stop me from pushing until I got the answers I needed. When I eventually spoke with the veterinarian, he told me that in the future I should insist on being transferred to his voicemail so I could leave the question directly for him.
Was that interaction frustrating? Absolutely. But it was one interaction out of hundreds over more than 25 years, and I think that perspective matters.
Do I believe the people at Dakota Hills genuinely care about animals? Hands down, yes. I have never questioned that, and that is why I am willing to pay a premium for their care.
One experience in particular says a lot about this clinic. Another pet owner brought in a beautiful 2 year old Lab after he began having seizure activity following a dose of heartworm medication. The veterinarian could not say with certainty that he didn’t have an underlying seizure disorder. His owner wanted him euthanized, but instead, the clinic asked to take over his care.
I ultimately ended up with that beautiful, sweet dog, less than a week later, who now completely owns my heart. I think he probably owns a little piece of the heart of the veterinarian who saved him, too. And by the way, he has now been seizure free for a year.
Nobody and no veterinary clinic is perfect. After more than 25 years, I have experienced both the good and the bad. But I have also seen firsthand how much the people at Dakota Hills care about the animals entrusted to them. They gave one dog a chance when someone else was ready to give up on him, and because of that, he is here today living a beautiful life.
Would I recommend Dakota Hills Vet? Without a shadow of a doubt.

Humane Society-Black Hills
1820 E Saint Patrick St, Rapid CityI was beyond impressed by how clean and organized everything was there. I called for an appointment, showed up and was given a tour and time with the cat I looked up. Once I felt she was comfortable with me I asked to have her, within 30 minutes I had the paperwork filled out, all the medical procedures and everything along those lines done swiftly. I was helped by a super nice lady I believe named Eva or Ava and she was so professional and kind and made it so easy for me. Answered all my questions and even gave great advice. I left with a packet with different vet names and a free check up and free supplies for my new kitten. This place was awesome I can’t recommend it enough and the front desk ladies are the exact type of people you’d want helping you out and finding the right pet.
