The Read House Hotel, Downtown, is a beautiful and historic hotel located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. Its superb renovation preserves the elegance of the 1930s, making it feel like a step back in time. The hotel features large, quiet, and comfortable rooms, some with charming views, and offers amenities like a swimming pool with a waterfall feature. Guests often praise the friendly and helpful staff, including bellhops, valets, bartenders, and desk personnel, who provide excellent service and are engaging and personable. The hotel’s location is ideal for exploring the area on foot, with many local restaurants, shops, and attractions such as the Children's Museum and Aquarium within walking distance. The hotel is also close to the riverfront and shopping areas, making it very walkable. The hotel offers various experiences, including a complimentary ghost story/tour of room 311 led by enthusiastic storytellers, and a billiards room behind the bar in what was once a speakeasy. Dining options received positive remarks, with drinks reasonably priced, and staff providing prompt service. The hotel’s safety inside is very good, and outside, it is generally safe, though some guests noted a few encounters with homeless individuals during morning walks. However, there are some drawbacks. The hotel has only two elevators, with one broken for over two weeks, causing long waits and inconvenience, especially for older guests and those with mobility issues. The elevators are small and often crowded. Additionally, some guests found the rooms to be somewhat bare and in need of upgrades, such as larger refrigerators or more decor. Despite these issues, most visitors would recommend the hotel and plan to return, especially for its historic charm, friendly service, and prime downtown location.
Had a great time here! Very clean, nice rooms and exquisite decor. We spent an hour or more just walking around the lobby and taking pictures.
