Alex Haley Heritage Square is a hidden gem, offering a peaceful and well-maintained park experience. The area features a disc golf course, a brand-new playground, and picnic tables under the shade of trees. The park showcases an impressive statue honoring the renowned author, Alex Haley, whose iconic work changed the lens through which slavery was viewed. The playground is clean and well-kept, providing multiple activities for children to enjoy. The park is also dog-friendly, though visitors should bring their own waste bags. Whether you're looking for a quiet picnic spot, a fun disc golf game, or a place for the kids to play, Alex Haley Heritage Square is a delightful destination worth a visit.
A very nicely done statue! Seems kind of out of the way, but I don't really know the area/city. It also seems like a camp area for the unhoused and/or a spot for drug users (there was some garbage, syringes, etc., behind some of the rocks and on the stairs).
