This is my second time purchasing a vehicle from City Auto. My first experience, which was many, many years ago, was great, no complaints. However, my most recent experience wasn’t the best. The first salesman I spoke with, Eugene, was a pleasure to speak with - very courteous and down to earth. But usually, if you come back another day, they put you with whoever is available, and this is how I ended up with Steve. He was so rude and nonchalant. He even told me that he didn’t care if I purchased the car or not, because he gets the same pay regardless. How insulting! Nonetheless, I did fall in love with the car, so I purchased it. During my purchase, I was told that I could call to schedule a time to have it detailed, since it was not very clean at the time of purchase. When I called about it, I was told someone would get back to me, yet they never did. A few days later, I decided to go in person, and was told that if it wasn’t stated on my paperwork, they would probably not honor the request, but that they would look into it and have someone call me the next day. I never received a call. What I learned from this experience, is that when working with City Auto get EVERYTHING in writing. Despite this one off situation, I do still believe that City Auto is one of the best and most reputable used car lots in the city. But, customer service needs a lot of work.Update as of 11/13/23:One of the managers, Lauren, reached out to me the next day after receiving this review. She was very concerned, and she apologized for my experience and helped to clear the confusion. She did explain to me that the financing staff member should not have offered to me a service that was not listed on my paperwork, as it is their policy. However, as a courtesy for my experience, she did still provide me with the detailing service. Lauren was a pleasure to speak with. Thank you, Lauren, for making this experience a better one.

The service was good, but salesman should be more honest and straightforward about the auto you wanting to purchase. Tell all and show all that's important about the car problems and safety. Especially, tell the customers if a car has a recall that could cause a car to crash ? sad to say that the salesman would put His commission first over someone life.☹️

I was recommended City Auto by friends and online Memphis discussion boards. They were considered one of the few honest and high quality dealerships left. I got the same vibe during my initial visit, and now I’m unsure.So far my saleswoman, finance, and the mechanic have been genuine and welcoming people, maybe even over apologetic.Every other step of the process has been a headache and waste of time. I have missed opportunities on other vehicles, some also offered by City Auto, and wages due to this mess.Before I could even test drive the vehicle I inquired about, I noticed the power seat wasn’t functioning. The saleswoman had let them know this, but I’m guessing the man that was her manager thought it’d still be okay to let me test it without telling me beforehand. The thing is I’m not blessed with height, so I wasn’t able to drive it anyway.This was a Saturday and I was told it should be an easy fix (normally true) by Monday or Tuesday. If they had to order the part/any delay I’d be contacted about it. I was not contacted about it, and had to chase down an estimate of “well, we’re unsure of when”.It has now been nearly two weeks since, and:-Everyday it seems like I’ve either had people call (multiple different ones) or have had to call people that say it should be ready “same day”-Completely opposing reasons as to why it isn’t ready yet-People having to “check” if the vehicle was even still available — when it’s been reserved-People calling and thinking I was the one dragging my feet, asking what was wrong on MY end-People calling and promising to follow up on an update, only to get radio silence and having to hunt one down myselfStill in progress, but for all of these customer service reasons alone, I am just not sure I could possibly recommend City Auto to anyone in the future. Will update as things are estimated (again) to be over soon.

I loved my experience with City Auto. Everything from a great and helpful staff to a great selection of vehicles at very good prices. They have a life long customer with me.I highly recommend them.A special shout out to Isaac for a job well done

I purchased a 2020 Jeep Cherokee Latitude(❤️ it) from City Auto in Sept, my salesperson was Matt(works very hard in getting you in a vehicle). I recently had an issue with my vehicle within 30days of purchase and I contacted City Auto and was told nothing could be done. I later received a call from Lauren who made an offer in assisting me and i accepted. At first I was disappointed with City Auto, but now I can say I'm satisfied☺️. City Auto handle their business. I give them ???? and 10 stars they really care about their customers. I recommend buying from City Auto ?

I walked in at 10:17am and walked out at 2:15pm with the SUV that I really wanted! ??? I just want to thank Eugene McNeal for going above and beyond to help us get what we wanted/needed. I bought a 2019 Nissan Altima and the check engine light came on 2 days later. I took it to Auto Zone and they gave a diagnostics that the Air Shutter grill was stuck off and need to be repaired. I took the car back to city auto they said they fixed it but didn’t cause the light came back on. I took it back a second time and they had the car for 2 days and they said it was fixed. Now it’s 3 months later and the car needs a new transmission because the issue that need to be fixed was never repaired by city auto. The car even stopped on me and the check engine light must be unplugged because it gave no hint that something was still wrong with the car for it to overheat. When I took it to an auto shop they put it on a machine and one of the issues that came up was the air shutter grill code that City Auto claimed to have fixed. I’m now stuck with a car that I paid city auto 18,000 for that’s only worth 9,000. And I can’t even trade the car in because there would be too much negative equity to carry over. Thanks City Auto for the Lemon ? Don’t buy a car from there. Beware.

My family has experienced excellent service for a very long time now. In 2017 my husband and I bought a vehicle from Mary, and because of that experience I referred my Mother to Eric Carey who really tuned into her needs and introduced her to an excellent vehicle. On this week my husband and I purchased a vehicle from Eric and still received the same service and got just what we needed.

Was here at City Auto earlier and I had a great salesman but it was the sales manager Rudy that made my visit so bad ! I’ve never seen a sales manager not even let the salesman talk or even get to know a customer before doing all the talking . He needs manners and let these guys do their job and he does his . We wasn’t even there long enough for the salesman to bring us inside Mr. Rudy came right on out to do a salesman job and messed up a deal in the span of 5 minutes! Please City Auto, change your management or check them because you will lose good people by having managers trying to be a salesman and not do their job.

I have just purchased a vehicle from City Auto on Elmore Rd. I must say that Ms. Freddi was absolutely the BEST sales person I had. She took care of me and made sure my car buying experience was great. She made sure I was happy with my purchase and communicated with me whenever I reached out to her for questions. If you are in the market to buy a new vehicle, please go see Ms. Freddi at City Auto on 4932 Elmore Rd. I promise you will not be disappointed with her service!

I have to say the staff at this place is just simply top notch. They made my wife feel like she was the only customer in the building. If you want to buy a used vehicle go see my friend's at City Auto . The owner has really made a difference in the community and treats the customers like family. If you need a car in Memphis DO NOT go to CITY AUTO. I was told I had all new tires and breaks when I bought my truck little over a month ago. When purchased there were a few minor flaws that were supposed to be taken care of before pick up. I've taken it in several times for the same thing with my battery, and asked them to make sure of any other issues only for them to continually miss something and I have to take it back. Customer service is awful and never answers the phone. You can leave 40 voicemails and will get no response. The absolute worst experience I've ever had! Now I need all new breaks and I'm leaking break fluid. Ridiculous! It would be nice to bring it in to get looked at, but good luck getting someone to call you back or answer besides the nice lady at the front desk. She's the only positive I have about the experience. Celeste has also been helpful, but that's the only positive feedback I can give.

Bought a car 3 weeks ago. Was there for 6 hours on Saturday. Found some things wrong with it on Sunday: had been wrecked- had a new bumper, new window put in, hood was not aligned correctly *before I bought it* Called back on Monday to speak with my salesperson and was told "that's not covered under your warranty." Was promised $150 check to help cover repairs. Haven't seen a dime. They took $400 off the price of the car to help with repairs (minus the $150 check they promised to send) but so far I have spent $500 so and City Auto DOES NOT CARE. Do not buy a car here.Update: Made my first payment, and City Auto says they sent us the $150 check. NEVER GOT IT. Continue to have to spend $$ on this car. No one at City Auto of Memphis cares. They got their commission and could care less about me! DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM HERE!!!!!!!!!!

Great service and workers here! Our sales associate Theresa did a fantastic job selling us the car we came in to buy. The financial assistant and manager were very friendly and helpful as well. Great environment except for loud kids. Waiting room is nice with couches, TV, coffee. The workers here are very eager to sell their cars to you!
