Not a good experience. I wasn’t given an option to test drive the vehicle I purchased. I had the vehicle for a year and traded it in at another dealership and received excellent service. I should have left when I wasn’t given the option to test drive the vehicle.

We bought a 2017 Toyota Sienna from CarMax in January 2025. Pricing was a bit high but still reasonable. The day of the purchase the paperwork was processed pretty quickly. We didn’t feel the sales person really cared. It seemed like it was just another sale but he wasn’t rude at all. Whichever department processed my paperwork, messed it up 3 times over the course of two weeks. They did fill up my tank each time I came in because I had to bring the signed documents back and they were apologetic. These vehicles are advertised as having this full complete inspection done. However, a few days after bringing it home, it was obvious that they didn’t do a great job and I’m convinced they didn’t do any inspection at all. The transmission started thunking, our back two tires were worn on the outside edge which indicated an alignment issue. We had panels underneath the vehicle that were flopping around, the back shocks were bad and leaky, the spare tire wasn’t secured and was bouncing around, and the USB port was not functioning properly. We did purchase the extended warranty even though the above items were covered from the original purchase. I will confirm that they addressed and fixed all the issues, no pushback at all. Here is where the frustration really started. Figuring out most of the items above required continual visits. It was very time consuming going back and forth. Probably my biggest irritation was the mechanics. I’m still convinced that they never quality checked the work after they were done with the repairs because even after repeated visits, the problems were still there which caused even more visits. In the process of trying to figure out why the transmission was thunking, I had my outside mechanic verify that the engine mounts (rubber) were cracked. We had pictures taken and brought them in and the mechanics disregarded them and said they were good despite the clearly visible pictures. I plan on bringing this back in to have these fixed before my warranty expires. If they do not fix them, I will take legal action for breech of contract. Repairs and troubleshooting continued, and I believe in July 2025, they gave me a loaner vehicle while they sent the minivan to the transmission shop. I had to travel for work so they allowed me to have extra miles to account for the trip. This demonstrated excellent customer service. Before I move on, I will say that DJ in the service department was great. He listened to our concerns and was always supportive when arranging appointments and follow up visits. 4 out of 5 stars for him. The transmission shop tried a few things and it didn’t work. We ended up having three different loaner vehicles over the course of 9-10 months. They did replace the transmission ($5K repair) which ultimately did fix the thunking noise but not 100%. 90% of the time we still have the noise but we will just live with it. My #1 positive was customer service, hands down. My #1 negative was the incompetence of the mechanics. I think I would consider buying another vehicle with CarMax if the situation was right.

Ease of shopping on line. The biggest break-down was communication between on-line information and real-time. Real-time was better than website info.

I provided my license and phone number, but was told I couldn't test drive the car I came to look at because I wouldn't provide my email address. I said that couldn't be true and he said it was true and he couldn't complete the form and pointed to his computer screen. I collected my license and asked he tell his manager that is ridiculous. He told me to have a good day and I left and bought a car somewhere else. This happened on Sunday October 5th. Pitiful service/policy.

We went to our local GMC dealer with intentions of buying an Acadia. The normal sales vultures were waiting at the gate. Test drove one and were going to buy. Got an insult for an offer on our car, waited and waited and just felt like we were getting screwed
Went home, looked on carmax, found a car with 6k miles that had more options than the one we tested, $14k cheaper, carmax offered us $4k more for our car.
Took 5 days to get new purchase delivered to our local carmax (shipped from Texas to Tennessee)
We showed up at carmax at 10:30 am, car was ready and as or better than advertised, test drove about 45 minutes, sold out car to them, paid for new car, ALL the legalities, paper work and taxes done. They ran our new car through the car wash ( wasn’t even dirty)
We were on our way home at 12pm!
Every one we delt with was super professional, courteous and appreciative for our business.
We will never buy from a car dealer again!!!!

Carmax had a good selection of vehicles in stock. I like the idea that they've serviced the vehicle and they provide me with a print out of the vehicle's history. The purchase was easy and pressure-free. I like the 10 day return policy, although I was confident that I would be keeping my new vehicle.

I am a senior citizen and had my qualms about selling my car in this method. However, I found the entire experience to be wonderful. I got my quote online, then visited the closest CarMax dealer (Murfreesboro, TN). My wife and I were greeted warmly and respectfully. The entire process was efficient and stress free. A quick test drive was followed a confirmation that my online offer would be honored. Everything I signed was clearly explained to me and I received copies of everything along with my check. I intended to call an Uber to take us home, but they arranged a Lyft ride for us at their expense. Every business should operate with this level of transparency and customer service!

I highly recommend working with Gash, he was knowledgeable, friendly and incredibly helpful. He took the time to answer all of my questions and made sure I felt confident in my purchase. The paper work was easy and was explained in great detail.
