“I was greeted on entering the store. You could hear the smile in her voice, it wasn't a robotic greeting. Although I didn't find what I was looking for (glitter pipe cleaners) I always find something that I can use. For a different project.”

“I live in Smyrna and the DT’s here are awful! I will say that they carry some items this one doesn’t but that’s it. Not really saying much as this on in Murfreesboro carries EVERYTHING!! The plus section is amazing!!! I was in there 2 hours!! Everyone was very polite and accommodating. A whole new world compared to the stores here. Thanks for being awesome! I will be back!!”

“Dollar tree is a compact store with many things I would buy but in smaller size (snacks). They always have cute socks which like $7 a pair. Sometimes, there are good brand name products on sale at $1.0. So if you see it, stock up!”

“If I can't find it at home I go here. They usually have what you are looking for. This store was a little messy. It seems as if all DG stores have clutter in the aisles. Besides the clutter it was clean. Great price on bottle water. The people were nice.”

“I pulled into the parking lot of Dollar General like a man with a mission—paper towels, maybe some off-brand cereal, nothing heroic. But the moment those automatic doors hissed open, reality folded like a cheap lawn chair.
First thing I noticed: the air. Not the usual “industrial pine cleaner + regret” combo. No. This was loam. Earth. Ancient moss that has seen things. The fluorescent lights flickered once—just once—and suddenly they weren’t fluorescent anymore. They were lanterns. Warm. Flickering. Suspiciously medieval.
I look down.
The tile? Gone. Replaced with a winding stone path, uneven like it had been laid by someone named Eldrin who refuses to acknowledge modern leveling techniques. The seasonal aisle had transformed into a full-blown hobbit market. Little wooden stalls. Jars of things that are definitely not FDA-approved. A sign that said “Two Turnips for a Copper, No Haggling (unless you’re charming).”
I turn the corner expecting cleaning supplies.
Nope.
A round green door. Just… sitting there between “$1 Bleach” and “Clearance Flip-Flops.” It breathes. I’m not exaggerating. The door inhales when I get close. A tiny voice from inside whispers, “We’ve been expecting you,” which is concerning because I have never expected them.
I try to leave. I really do. But the exit has been replaced by a low stone archway and a man who looks like if a garden gnome got promoted to middle management. He scans my basket (which I do not remember picking up) and says, “That’ll be three acorns and a memory you no longer need.”
Sir, I came in for toilet paper.
Now I’m emotionally negotiating with a creature named Bartholomew Twigfellow over the value of my third-grade field trip recollection.
Also, the freezer section? Not freezers. Caves. Deep, echoing caves with mist rolling out of them like a fog machine at a wizard’s birthday party. I opened one and I’m pretty sure I saw the concept of winter staring back at me.
At some point I blacked out or ascended—I’m unclear—and woke up back in the parking lot holding a single bag.
Inside the bag:

One (1) off-brand can of green beans

A perfectly carved wooden spoon

And a note that says “You may return when the mushrooms call”

I checked the receipt.
It just says: “Balance Paid.”
On the DL: went in for paper towels, accidentally entered a subterranean hobbit economy, lost part of my soul, gained a spoon. Would shop again if summoned.”

“Has self checkout. BEST DG in town for seasonal decor. I go between this location and the one off Manchester hwy but I prefer this one because there is less foot traffic and I don’t feel claustrophobic in there. Plus they seem to have better seasonal items than all of the others in town and they are always stocked. The tall man there with brown hair is a very good worker as well.”

“My visit at the Mansion Pk DG location was a great one today. Staff was friendly, items were being stocked on shelves ensuring availability for those last minute grabs. And they had the very item I wanted which the previous DG did not. I crossed paths with the manager Danielle who was very friendly, had a lovely smile and made me feel welcomed. I will definitely return.”
