“Modfellows, tucked away in the heart of South Nashville near the Zoo, is nothing short of a hidden artistic marvel and my absolute favorite gallery in the city. This gallery exudes a profound passion for art, curation, and collecting, evident in every corner of its inventive space. Here, both emerging talents and established artists find their canvas, making it a hub of creative dynamism. What sets Modfellows apart is its refreshing absence of the typical art-world snobbery and exclusivity. “I had a jersey framed here and the final product is absolutely beautiful. I had a few things that needed adjusting shortly after receiving and they went above and beyond to do so. Highly recommend their service and their pricing is very fair in my opinion. Thank you Woodcuts!”

“Very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I took a sentimental watercolor in after my house had a lot of damage from a frozen pipe. The gentleman inspected the matting and replaced the backing paper, all while I waited.”

“Art/design Home goods store located in Germantown. One of the best shops I've visited in Nashville and possibly the country. They offer furniture, kitchen items, pillows, perfune😄, incense, clothing, rare books/magazines etc. The key is everything is well made and high quality with a focus for design. Many Japanese items. Perfect place to pick up home furnishings of a fun quirky gift. Be prepared to spend and arm and a leg as nothing comes cheap.”

“Robert is super helpful and willing to work with you to find the right frame for your piece. I asked him to fix a frame that got damaged during a move and frame a piece I bought a long time ago.He had a bunch of really cool frame options in the shop, was up front about price, and ultimately helped me to come up with a beautiful frame for my piece. Honestly it was a lot of fun to work with him in picking out a frame you can tell he enjoys what he does and is very good at it.I will definitely be going back!”

“When R and I visited Nashville in November, we stopped at Loveless Cafe for lunch. However, because there were so many people ahead of us, we had to wait for our time slot. Thankfully, customers can browse through some stores, including Shimai, on the Loveless property while they're waiting. Shimai features art, crafts, pottery and other creations produced by local artisans. When I walked in, I had a sense of calmness come over me. It helped that this store was well lit and the sunshine flooded the place through the multi-paned windows. This little store seemed like a museum, with everything being so nice. I can't even begin to imagine how many total countless hours it took the many local artists to create everything that was in Shimai. The were pottery pieces, handblown glass art, paintings, jewelry, women's articles of clothing, and so many pieces of art that can be hanged on the wall. Just know that most of these art pieces come with a high price. But they're very beautiful!”

“This gallery is a must see. It's got NYC taste and feel, with southern warmth. My art works friend moved from NYC to Nashville. We are alumn of the Skowhegan Program. We spent the most time at this gallery, and had the most satisfaction venturing here. It was inspirational from an artist's point of view. The gallery owner w said hello. That was nice!”

“The Carl Van Vechten Gallery—named after writer, photographer, and Harlem Renaissance patron, was the ideal size gallery so I would not overwhelm myself with multiple levels and stairways. I love museums and galleries, but I try to look for something more manageable since I am not always able to walk as far or as long as other friends and family members. I want to mention this for any visitors who may bring along an elderly relative or someone with an illness or restrictions to their movements. While in Nashville with my husband, I knew I would like to tour some of Fisk University's campus and take pictures because I enjoy the rich history of African Americans. I was not anticipating such a powerfully creative display as we toured the exhibit full of collages, paintings, ceramic sculptures, and textile-based work. Reading about the artist and professor, Alicia Henry, was both inspirational and meaningful. In the 20 works of art, you will gain an opportunity to witness the artist’s outsized talent. We found out the gallery changes exhibits every several months, so I can't wait to visit again, if I'm ever in the Nashville, Tennessee area. I must take time to mention the gallery director and curator, Jamaal Sheats,  who was so welcoming and friendly even before we got inside. We just happened to pass by him outside as we were walking towards the building. I had no idea who we were chit-chatting with until we went in the gallery, and he came in explaining things to us and answering questions we had. Stopping here, as well as touring the whole campus, was a highlight of our morning!”

“I am so impressed with the service. I brought in two pieces to be framed and the gentleman was so kind and helpful with picking out the frame and the mat and style. Just picked them up and they look fabulous!! The framing is such high quality! And he even included the nail and hook so I could immediately get it on the wall. I will give come to this place for all my framing needs! He told me it would take a couple of weeks and it was done as promised and the price was very reasonable.”

“This facility is small, but very nice. The entrance is around the back of the building and there is parking in the front, back and next door. A friend just displayed some of her pieces in an art show along with several other people and there was ample space for everything to be showcased.”
