I have been a member of Kim Soo Karate (Chayon Ryu) off and on for the past 12 years. The wonderful thing about Chayon Ryu is when life happens and you have to take a hiatus -- whether it be for 7 weeks or 7 years -- you know when you return many of your martial arts family will still be there to welcome you back. This is a martial art that focuses on the concept of "Natural Way" -- more specifically, it focuses on the concept that every action must have an equal and opposite reaction, and how that concept pertains to the use of your body. As a result, we are able to create powerful punches and kicks without causing damage or injury to our own bodies.Austin Kim Soo Karate is taught by Master Kim Geary, who is a 9th degree black belt and has been practicing Chayon Ryu for several decades. She is a detail-oriented teacher who truly believes that the academic and intellectual portions of our martial art style is just as important as the physical. She can be a tough teacher, but she's always fair. I love this school, and I love that my fellow students have become a part of my family.
