Be cautious. Had a last minute shoot that I flew into Austin for, had to rent a small handful of lighting and grip gear. I had sent a request in the day before I picked up the gear after flying in that day. When they emailed me back with the startup paperwork, they made no mention that one of the pieces of equipment I requested was not available, but had instead sent with me a more expensive piece of gear. They only added it to the invoice without telling me about the substitute. I loaded the gear from their rental house, but when arriving to the location and unloading the gear, I noticed in the bag that it wasn't what I rented, but instead a more expensive kit. After returning the gear a day later, I requested a copy of my final invoice. When I asked them about the upgraded gear, they told me that the requested piece of equipment wasn't available during my rental request. When I asked about why they didn't give me a heads up via email or at least verbally when there to pick up the gear, they stated that they sent it in the invoice. To their credit, I should have read through every single line item in the FIVE different emails they sent me for startup paperwork. But being a solo filmmaker and it being a last minute shoot, I was in a rush and didn't see anything about a gear substitute when I went through the emails. The only thing I noticed after the fact is that they tucked it into the invoice.
So in the end, it was my bad for not going through every line item, making sure that everything I requested was the same as what I was receiving. However, it was also on them for not notifying me about the unavailable gear and the more expensive substitute.
The gear worked fine, and the substitute wasn't overly expensive, but I have a problem with poor communication from companies, especially when they charge me more than what was originally requested. Had they notified me, I would have been fine with the upgrade. It's the lack of proper communication that is bothersome.
So, good rule of thumb for everyone renting gear from here, MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERY LINE ITEM and bring it up to them, because they aren't going to bring it to your attention themselves.

Best place in Austin to rent camera equipment like lenses, tripods, cameras and so much more. I have been renting equipment from them since 2016 and never have I been disappointed.

Thank you so much to the team for all their advice, guidance and support in helping us plan a shoot from the UK in Texas. Dani and the team were so attentive and Accommodating, and made the whole process as smooth as butter. Their responsiveness (in view of the time difference) was so great. They also jumped on a call and helped us with some technical difficulties. The Masterwork Films and Misfit Founders team would highly recommend ??
Thanks team!

Austin Movie Gear is great and I highly recommend to anyone looking for high quality equipment rentals! All of the equipment that I received from them was in great condition and I had no issues with anything that I received. The management and planning of pickups/drop offs are additional clear and well scheduled, making it incredibly easy to work with AMG!
The customer service is top-tier. Everyone is so kind and patient, willing to go through any questions about the equipment and clarifying possible setups. Every time I entered the building I was greeted with smiles and friendly faces. It’s clear that everyone here just wants to help make productions go as smooth as possible!
Austin Movie Gear is also amazing because of their indie production grants….they’re incredibly generous by giving discounts to smaller productions! It certainly made my production more feasible to accomplish with my limited budget.

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the outstanding customer service I received during my recent equipment rental experience with your company.
From the initial quote process, where Christopher provided valuable assistance and information, to the payment and formalities handled efficiently by Dani, I was consistently impressed by the professionalism and helpfulness of your staff. Dani's friendly demeanor and clear explanations made the process seamless for our producers.
At the equipment checkout, L and his team went above and beyond to ensure that our package was ready, tested, and organized. The additional space provided for prep was greatly appreciated.
I was truly amazed by the commitment and dedication of everyone involved in resolving any issues that arose. Your team's knowledge, friendliness, and willingness to go the extra mile made all the difference.
While there are other film equipment and video stores in Austin, Austin Movie Rental stands out for its exceptional quality of service. I will definitely be returning for future rentals and highly recommend your company to anyone in need of film equipment.

I'm glad this shop exists, the entire staff has been a lifesaver for my production shoots. BIG BIG BIG thanks to Keith for helping me over the phone (after hours) troubleshooting a piece of gear.

Really disappointed that they doubled the rate of our rental because we picked up 1.5 hours early on a Friday. It didn’t impact them in any way and we didn’t get any extra use out of the lens. Minor flexibility for a repeat customer is something I’d expect out of a small local business.
When picking up, they also mentioned that the lens we rented may or may not have electronic issues with the AF system.. another great reason to be flexible on a nearly 10 year old lens.

Worst company to rent gear from in Texas. Just rented gear here and half was not working. They block people on their social media who speak out and refuse to take any responsibility. BE CAREFUL. DO NOT RENT ANY GEAR HERE. Use Sharegrid instead. Way better people and you actually support the community.

Not as much access to same gear as you would think, not a true 48 hour rental time. Gave half dead batteries with lavs but at least commented about it. Didn't enjoy the late fee of a whopping 15 minutes either but it's neglible at this point.

Worst place to rent from. Gear is old and doesn't work. They don't take any responsibility when the gear doesn't work. The owner is rude and has no respect for customers.

Incredibly patient, polite, and knowledgeable. Usually those traits come with a high cost, but the prices weren’t high either. I’m a novice. I needed a lens for a camera I bought, and they spent an hour with me making sure it was setup and I felt comfortable using it. My friends who are camera professionals all come here and recommended them to me. I wish I could give more stars.
