I highly recommend this place! I'm not a dancer, I was terrified to go, but they do an amazing job making beginners feel comfortable. It was cheap too!

Such a fun experience. Did the intro to swing class and the instructors did a great job teaching us in a short amount of tine to be ready for the social dancing hour. People were great.

If you like dancing, you MUST check out the Austin Swing Syndicate! This place is just so good. Every Thursday the Fed transforms into swing central with multiple dance lessons and lots of dancing to big band tunes. The instructors for the classes are phenomenal and teach at just the right level (free beginner classes start at 8:15 pm!); and, you can satisfy your dance needs for many dance styles: Lindy hop, balboa, shag, solo jazz... Most highly recommend signing up for the monthly dance class series! The social dancing afterwards is always a great time, whether it's a DJed party or a live music event. The great hall of the Fed is filled with more than hundred folks of all ages (15 through 70+) who want to bust a move. You don't need to come with a partner or a friend, but you can also make it a great outing with your friends, if that's more your jam. The live music events that occur once a month feature great local bands and make the whole evening a whole lot more special and fun. Bring your water bottle! Lots of dancing means lots of sweating. They also sell water in plastic bottles, but we don't want to pollute our planet, do we? Free parking is available a few short blocks away (check their website for details). And, they offer two tiers of membership to cut down the cover fees. Both are a great deal, but if you are committed to weekly dancing, the sustaining membership is an awesome deal. You get a free tshirt, three passes for guests per year, and free admission to all weekly dances among other benefits.

I felt really lost in Austin for quite a while after moving back, but then a friend invited me to swing and I begrudgingly said yes. Little did I know, I was about to find the thing that keeps me here in Austin. I have only been going for about 4 1/2-5 months, but it has completely changed my worldview. The environment is welcoming and unafraid. Everyone is so kind to newcomers and we are all just excited that everyone is there. I have never spoken to anyone who didn't truly enjoy themselves at swing. It is Austin's best kept secret and I now tell everyone about it: strangers, friends, family members, and even my students! What a cool style of dance to keep alive.

The Fed is my favorite weekly swing venue that I've danced at -- the music and ambiance can't be beaten, especially when there's a live band. I fondly remember my late collegiate days when I would walk a few blocks to the Fed to destress with some good 'ole East Coast Swing. You'll never get bored dancing here, especially since there's always a side-room lesson teaching blues, Balboa, etc in addition to the East Coast Swing 6 count dance in the main ballroom! As most places in Austin, the dance community at the Fed is extremely friendly -- everyone dances with everyone, which I love the most!

Whether it's a live band night or just the DJs, the swing syndicate is the best way to spend a Thursday night. It's a great time for everyone on the swing dance spectrum, from beginner to advanced. The venue is also gorgeous and the hardwood floors are perfect for dancing.

This is a really fun place to learn how to swing dance. Sometimes there's a lot of people but that can be a good thing too. I've tried swing dancing on and off for many years and this is the first place that I've decided to commit and to get a membership. This last Thursday night was the first night that I had to actually felt good about swing dancing and all the times that I've tried so I'm very thankful for the kindness and patience of everyone there.

After learning to dance in Austin and attending the weekly dances here at the Austin Swing Syndicate for several years, I finally had the opportunity to travel and see what the swing dance scenes are like in other cities and now I finally realize how spoiled we are! The Austin Swing Syndicate and dancing at the Fed may be the funnest thing Austin has to offer and I try to get everyone I know to give it a shot. The Swing Syndicate is a big winner of the best new things in my life this decade. Join us and our awesome community! Make friends, have fun, and learn something that will bring a lifetime of joy!
