Had not been to see the Nutcracker in 25 years. We enjoyed the show, The performers bowed and the lights came on so we left to beat the crowd outside. Come to find out we missed the entire second act without knowing about the intermission. Ended up being very bummed out the next day which was our fault. I emailed ballet austin just for the sake of mentioning that we hoped the same thing doesn’t happen to anyone else. The staff member emailed me back and after a few emails back and forth ended up getting us seats for the very next Friday. We went again without having to pay a second time and this time stayed for the entire show. It was breathtaking. What a beautiful spectacle to see live. Thank you so much to ballet Austin for your generosity and understanding. Definitely recommend going to anyone thinking about going and want to also start going more ourselves.

Gosh do they make it hard for wheelchair users to buy tickets. The website says they can only be purchased by phone. The phone line says they don’t answer, no tickets can be purchased over the phone, and to go online. I email them and only get an automated response redirecting me to the website where accessible tickets aren’t sold. What a frustrating and disheartening experience. When it’s this hard to just buy a ticket, it feels like you’re not welcome.
Update: They reached back out to me via email to purchase tickets over the phone. If you need tickets as a wheelchair user, email them first and they will call you. Looking forward to the show.

Unless you have small children, do not go to a 2:00 p.m. performance of the Nutcracker. Ushers did a terrible job of policing drunk patrons and screaming children. Dancing was pretty good. Music was great.

We had a magical experience last night at the Nutracker. The show was spectacular, but we knew that beforehand. It’s Ballet Austin after all!
The thing is that we made a mistake and bought our tickets from a third party. We were told the emailed tickets would arrive the day before, but we never got them. We went to the ticket office, and were told we had to contact the seller. It wasn’t until then that we realized that we hadn’t purchased directly. To make a long story short, the tickets that we purchased had been canceled by Ballet Austin long ago because the seller violated their no-resell policy. Of course, we were never told, and were facing the possibility of missing the performance. But the staff at the ticket office were incredibly gracious. They explained what happened, asked us to report this to our credit card company, provided written evidence, and gave us two excellent complimentary tickets.
It is refreshing to deal with organizations that empower their employees to the point of making decisions like this. We are incredibly grateful for the way they handled it. That’s how you build a loyal customer base.
Thank you Ballet Austin for a wonderful experience.

Giving up on purchasing tickets for The Nutcracker. Plenty of available seats near the front but it wouldn't let us leave a single seat in that row. Then we selected seats farther away and every time we were in checkout our selection disappeared from my cart.
Called and they were unable to help insisting that tickets must be purchased online.
Very disappointing. I hope they keep their word and don't expose my account information as many organizations do these days.

We usually go to the JCC center. Came here today for a make up class. And the low rating is ONLY for their parking situation. There's almost no free parking on site (may be about 10). It took me 20 minutes to find parking at the Google parking garage next lane, which is equally horrible. You have to be careful driving up and down the parking garage as the space is extremely tight and some people drive like they're on the Ferrari track. I'm never coming back to this location on a weekday

I absolutely love going to see the Nutcracker every year so I thought we would try the current performance of “Belle”. What’s more enchanting than Beauty and the Beast? This is not the sweet enchanting redemptive story of love and acceptance we enjoyed with our children.
Hugely disappointing. Very dark. Music was heavy, minor and oppressive. Imagery, costumes, music was not enjoyable.
To be fair, we left after the first act- we were so under impressed and uncomfortable.
Maybe the second act had some redemption but I couldn’t wait that long.

This review is for the packing situation for those who cannot walk, bite, or take public transportation, taxi/Uber/Lyft ride: limited small number of free parking on site (counted ~13 as of April 2024), most of the time all gone during open class time.
The discounted parking at city hall still easily goes to $6 out of pocket after parking validation for 1.5hr class(essentially paying time to walk back and forth from parking lot to BA). If someone needed a bit time to warmup, change etc be ready for more parking fee.
This number will go up if someone takes a workshop class after open class. Very expensive to be onsite for very 2 hr such as attending the intensive.
Inquired BA if a couple of slots could be reserved for those who come from over 50miles without alternative commute options, and come for longer programs such as the intensive. Was told absolute no.
Make sure to budge for parking besides the class/program fee.

Nice spot for kids as early as 1 to start ballet. Groups are small and teachers are fantasticOnly problem is parking, but it is downtown Austin. They validate for parking next door at reduced prices

Warning: you must be between the ages of 18-24, in perfect shape with a very specific body type and have tons of previous dance experience to literally even try at this place. When they say “community fitness” they actually mean “former dancers who still want to come to the dance studio and please no one else”. The instructor was the least clear, least supportive, most arrogant dance instructor I’ve ever seen. He didn’t explain a single thing - not a step, not a beat. In fact, he taught it to us in half time and then put the music on and laughed when the actual song was double time (so literally 4x faster than what he had just shown us) and just said “good luck”. We left early and I feel like the whole auditorium of mean girls probably clapped. Never again.I only gave it two stars (instead of the -10 it deserves) because the receptionists at the front were SUPER nice.
