The layout of this store is insane, really makes you feel like you could spend hours in here. In a great place in Austin, lots of stuff to do around it. The attention to detail is what catches your attention immediately. Only 3 stars though bc from an actual reading point of view it was very difficult to find a book that wasn't obviously politically one sided. Every genre or category in the store was heavy liberal leaning. I understand it's Austin but bookstores should do their best at keeping the information informative and non biased. Reading is about gaining information and then making up your own opinions based on facts, no one likes to read a book where the author is obviously biased towards one side only. If I'm wanting to read a book about the civil war it's because I want to read about particular instances and the chain of events that happened in that moment. Not bc I wanna know how the actions of the civil war led to Donald trump becoming president. Was just very difficult to find books that were informative and right down the middle, no political agenda just honest information.

How many actual brick and mortar book stores have you been to recently? This store is so poetically put together for the true book lovers to experience feeling and smelling the paper of a book and seeing what's out as you walk through the many sections. Right off Lamar and close to Whole Foods. They sell other stuff in addition to books with two floors. If it's out, it seems like they have it in stock. Shopping here is more of an experience than just coming in for a specific book. Today it was a book signing of Austin Heat with the author doing a talk and book signing. I already have the book from a prerelease event but I wanted to come hear her talk about the book in a more relaxed environment than the big book launch party.

Great bookstore! Great selection of books on the shelf and they can order basically any book in existence to the store, so I've never had an issue getting what I need. Why would you ever shop anywhere else?

This is the cutest and quirkiest bookstore in Central Austin. Everything I saw I wanted especially the socks. They have such a great selection of books along with ordering you anything that you don't see in stock. As though it couldn't get any better, they have a café with all of the usual fare. I actually went in here for magazines to work on my vision board, but was disappointed to find out that they no longer sold them. Regardless of that I would definitely come back here and stay for as long as possible. If you love books, this is your spot.

Love Book People for all the reasons. But I want to add that their program to buy books/gift cards for the children of incarcerated women in Texas tells it all. They are a community treasure.

Love the selection and the amount of books! Disappointed that they don't allow dogs. We have gone to so many other book stores and they allow dogs. so surprised for a book store in Austin.

Incredible space and a coffee shop inside also. Organized by genre and we appreciated all of the notes employees have for some of the books after they ready them. More fun and unique compared to the typical book store. Independently owned, this suits Austin without being ~too weird.

Coffee People is the charming coffee and snacks spot inside Book People. The wifi is strong. The staff is really lovely and welcoming. It's a great spot for a giant cup of hot tea in the winter. You can do your work surrounded by books and people gliding to and fro in their happy place. I feel smarter and a little bit hipper when I laptop it at Coffee People. Pretty sure my grammar is better inside here too.

An independent bookseller and community staple. This is one of the last Third Spaces left in Austin. As Third Spaces disappear, community engagement dwindles. If I may make a small request: please bring back the big comfy reading chairs and couches. My fiance says they are what made this place feel like a welcoming space to spend hours in back in the day. From childhood to 'first love break-ups,' he said he kept coming back to this quiet space to read and soak in it's peaceful vibes. This place also reminds me of the library I used to attend community event in back home (when I was a child). Needless to say, this Third Space is one of our new date spots. Try the cafe inside on the ground floor. I know I will next time.

I recently heard that Book People has really cool gifts, but I was not ready for how cool this book store really is! I have not been into a book store in a long time and after coming here, it makes me want to start coming back just to support them. This store is way cooler than Barnes and Nobles and it's huge with several twists and turns into different sections and alcoves. Each book has a hand written description underneath which is something you don't see at book stores. My favorite thing about this store are the curio cabinets filled with some of the most interesting items. I call them Cabinets of Curiosities. I found some really cool gifts for Christmas and right now, they have free gift wrapping which is a definite plus. It's very cozy, has a coffee shop, nice and friendly staff and is filled to the rafters with books, gifts and games.

I loved this bookstore, all the workers are super sweet, the clerk did kind of guilt trip me to donate tips for the kids but it was funny. Super wide selection of books and the coffee is convenient and great. The variety of puzzles are good and staff are also helpful. Overall one of the best bookstores I've gone to, it smells awesome too, like incenses.

The BOOK STORE here. We sadly don't get to this place enough and it is great. It has an upstairs and downstairs area, a coffeepeople, a whole section for local authors. Several information desks and lots of employees around to help and keep things in order. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and the lady who rang us up had fun information about the author of one of the books we bought. They use the space great and while I didn't get upstairs I was impressed with the flow of books with knickknacks and items for sale. They had a wide range from the usual shirts and coffee mugs to unique ashtrays and evil eye things...Not sure what they were. They are a bit pricey so something to look out for, We didn't get a coffee or a souvenir so I only looked, some of them were cheaper then you would think but others not. It's hit or miss. But don't misunderstand, the place is great and if you haven't been you should go. The outside signage is like a movie marquee. Its' fun.

We love a good bookstore and we did not feel like leaving this place, it's so good! It has the charm and welcoming feel of a small bookstore but enough space and books for a big one.The children's section is amazing, very good selection of books and a huge area for story time. We will definitely be back hopefully during one of the events.

Austin throwback and so glad they’re still around. They’ve got an incredible amount of every kind of book you’re looking for. They’ve got a great little cafe in there and it’s very relaxing and peaceful but not to the point of being a quiet library. I highly suggest you drop by and check it out
