DO NOT TRUST CARMAX OF NORTH AUSTIN!

It took 5 months and the most wonderful customer service advocate, Bruce, but CarMax kept their word and made it right with the vehicle I purchased. Bruce even made sure it went to a Ford service center to certify the work and repairs. Still disappointed it took so much time and effort, but grateful that it seems to have worked out in the end.
First, shame on me. I should know better.
I was told they do a 160 point inspection. I have signed paperwork guaranteeing that this inspection was done and that the truck I bought met those standards. When I bought it I was concerned with a slight stutter and was repeatedly assured that it was no big deal and if it was CarMax would take car off it in the first 90 days.
Again, shame on me for trusting a used car dealer! That small stutter turned out to be MAJOR transmission problems and despite the fact that I've had to make 4 payments, I've only been able to drive the truck for about 1 month total (split across the 4 months because of repeated repairs needed).
So far, CarMax has honored the 90 day guarantee and paid for repairs, but given that it dropped into neutral on I-35 without warning or reason, I'm not confident that they or their "trusted partners" know what they're doing and am afraid to drive it.
Will update if/when I feel safe that the repairs are satisfactory and I can drive the vehicle.

I had never been to Carmax before, but was extremely pleased with their ease in buying a car there. Ali, at the N. Austin location was extremely helpful, personable, and patient and I would highly recommend working with him!

Got my car back in January, they are used vehicles and problems happen but after less the six months of own the vehicle the check engine light comes on and it's just the gas cap which cost $30 with labour of $250. Also they kept my car over night because the part didn't arrive till the end of the day even though I left my vehicle at 8:30 am. A text of just hey it's not arriving till the end of the day, and a loaner car would have helped.

The process to sell my car was very easy!! Walked in the door was directed where to go and they looked at my car quickly got the paperwork done and was out the door within an hour! The ladies at the desk were very kind and helpful with any questions I had.

Very easy process. Sal was very helpful and understanding. No pressure, no BS, just check out the vehicle you like, if you like it, you buy it. Trade in values are fair and seamless. Extended Warranty coverage is very reassuring as well. 5 Years and 125k (on odometer) mile coverage is the one I picked. I can take the vehicle into any shop if something breaks and it's covered with a reasonable deductible. 10 day return policy and a standard 90 day warranty is pretty sweet as well. Overall very pleasant experience. Honestly, I'm struggling to think of anything bad to say about the experience.
I had financing through my bank and not through CarMax, though. CarMax's interest rates are crazy, so I suggest financing through your bank if at all possible.
As far as service goes, I can't tell you. I do know that the 115 point inspection or whatever it is doesn't really go that in depth. So I STRONGLY suggest taking advantage of their "24 hour test drive", taking the vehicle to a trusted mechanic to inspect it before buying. If it all checks out ok, be sure to get the MaxCare Warranty because then you can take it to any RepairPal Certified shop and get it fixed, which is many good mechanics in the area. I really don't want to bring my truck to a dealer unless absolutely necessary, so the benefit of being able to take my truck in to my mechanic (certified through RepairPal) is really nice.

They lied to me and told me the documentation I had would work in order to sell my car and then after wasting multiple hours there, they told me the paperwork wasn’t accurate, don’t lie to people just tell them you don’t know. Super disrespectful and a complete waste of money and time. 0/10

Saw a amazing truck that my mom wanted and we went to put our name into the waiting list, and waited the next 45 min just to find on our own that we couldn’t test drive the car. Wouldn’t have been annoyed except for the fact there was 3-4 employees just walking around looking bored since it was so slow in there.

I’m thoroughly impressed with Jessica and the entire CarMax team! They promptly scheduled an appointment to address my window alignment issue, and I appreciate that all repairs are covered under the 90-day/4,000-mile warranty. Bruce and his team demonstrated exceptional transparency, especially when they discovered structural damage from a previous accident that wasn’t documented. Unlike many places, CarMax prioritizes customer safety and well-being, even when it’s not their responsibility. Their commitment to transparency and customer care has earned my utmost respect. Thank you, CarMax, for truly caring about your customers.

So recently, I’ve been trying to buy my first car from Carmax I do not recommend this location at all! It took them 5days to sell me a car and when I got insurance for a car I had an appointment to BUY, it was all confirmed. They allowed it to auto expire making me waist 409$ and a bad inquiry on my credit, and could you believe after all that I still didn’t get a car because I mysteriously got banned from working with them afterwards.

Carmax made the buying process so easy. JP was the absolute best he was a pleasure to work with. He was patient and really knew his cars very knowledgeable when I asked questions. (And it was a lot) lol. I would definitely recommend seeing him
The process did take a while but the weekends usually are longer and hectic so I get it. Thank you everyone for all you do every day and the helpful staff. Always a pretty good selection of cars I think. Jean-Piere you Rock buddy! I hope I spelled it right. 😉
