I ordered breakfast here today. They left it sitting out on the counter and not the hotlamp for 10 minutes, it was cold and made me feel sick. I go to buy eggs and the price said $6 something cents, they rang up over $8. The older plump lady with the constume on and themed headbands has been super rude to me on multiple occasions. Im truly disappointed and I'm not going to come back to this store, at least not for a long while.

Wherever priced and a very busy parking lot. Generally too crowded for my taste.

Love this store the market has great affordable food! I get the noodle bowl and add my own protein at home if I take it to go and it’s enough for two people or one person and leftovers and their French fries are some of my favorite ☺️ also bought great vegan kimchi in yeh store while I waited for my order. So convierte always clean and very friendly staff

Twice now I’ve bought expensive seafood there only to get it home and find it smelled strongly of ammonia and was bad. When I complained I was offered a refund but no explanation or promise to do better with safety standards and stop selling bad seafood. Not buying seafood there anymore!

No organic bulk spices?!! Wow. THAT was surprising. Seems like y'all could do better than that.

I have been a loyal customer here for 15 years, it is my primary grocery store, but after today, I’m considering just not coming back. In advance of the freeze, I ran out to get groceries which meant means that I won’t have time to cook dinner tonight, so as part of me picking up quick items I went to get a rotisserie chicken and there wasn’t one. I was assured that they would be coming out at 7 o’clock, so I waited an additional 20 minutes after buying my groceries and putting them in the car to run back in and grab a chicken. Then assured me they were coming out at 7:00 pm, at 7:15 I asked again to confirm. At 7:20 he slowly wheeled the chicken coming from the back, and then took him to the back of the kitchen where I was watching him box it up with the scan codes. Because they were ready for me to check out and just 3 feet away. I asked may I please grab one of those chickens I’ve been waiting for quite a while. I would very much appreciate it and he refused to hand one over, and then mocked me in Spanish, which he clearly didn’t think I understood but did, to his coworker. I am not a pushy customer, what I was asking for was very reasonable, and ultimately I had to leave without the chicken because my groceries (including ice cream) now have melted, and my family has been waiting on me for over an hour.. let’s be real, I pay extra for customer service and great quality food. I did not come to be mocked and treated this way. This makes me so sad, and actually hurt my feelings. Not coming back.

South one always seems ransacked and more expensive than North Lamar

It's always enjoyable exploring Central Market. And now they have an app that can help me find things that are not obvious where they are located. That's very cool.

I was thrilled to return to one of my old haunts—CM Westgate. As a born-and-bred South Austin native, this place was a staple, the kind of spot you could swing by daily without a second thought. But alas, things have changed.
First, I noticed the prices. Some of the products I usually grab at regular HEB prices were marked up by as much as $1.50. Inflation hits everyone, but this felt like highway robbery under the guise of "healthy or upscale". Still, I was eager to sample the offerings and hoped for a glimmer of the old charm.
After making my way to the restaurant, though, my excitement quickly dimmed. The menu has now been stripped down to what can only be described as elevated bar food. My choice? A roast beef and cheese sandwich. A classic comfort dish, right? Wrong.
What I got was a masterclass in culinary disappointment. The bun was both overdone and hard while simultaneously soggy—a rare and impressive culinary paradox. Nestled beneath all the melty cheese was my roast beef, which could have easily moonlighted as charcoal at a backyard barbecue. The fries? Lukewarm, limp, and sorrowful. The wine I ordered to help me cope was about as sad as my meal itself, but hey—it was $25 worth of self-medication. Next time, I’ll save my money and head to Arby’s.
The ambiance didn’t improve my mood, either. A group of patrons was engaged in a loud, heated argument. I couldn’t tell you what it was about, as I don’t speak Italian, but had I, it might have been mildly entertaining. Nearby, another woman had taken issue with some choice profanity and was making such a scene about it that I briefly wondered if this was a live performance piece. All of this chaos was under the watchful gaze of a young police officer, who appeared far more interested in his phone than the debacle unfolding before him.
Oh, and before I could escape back to my car, there were the usual "parking lot greeters"—the kind who make you think if the trolls under a bridge.
What has happened to my beloved South Austin? What used to feel like a comforting neighborhood retreat now feels overpriced, chaotic, and a far cry from what it once was. Next time, I’ll go to regular ole HEB.

For this past Thanksgiving, my wife ordered a 22 pound Diestel turkey to be picked up the day before from Central Market south Austin.
When we arrived to pick up the turkey they told us that the Diestel turkey vendor had botched the order for a group of customers and have not delivered the orders. Instead they offered us a different turkey brand (Merry).
While I understand that the turkey farm vendor is mainly at fault, I was still quite surprised that central market did not notify us about the situation even though they knew about it days in advance and in doing so left us with no choice but to buy the alternative turkey brand from them.
Furthermore, we were assured that the turkey that they gave us has been stored above freezing point (34F), but my wife noticed a significant amount of ice within the turkey’s rib cage and she had to defrost the turkey for a long period of time.
All and all, we are quite unhappy with the way central market handled this situation.

Specifically for the cafe: Migas were extremely brown, overcooked, tough. The tomatillo sauce was good and the value for $7.50 really great, so 3 stars. I won’t get food here again.
