I made an appointment for a routine oil change and tire rotation. I also read on the website about the holiday deal where you check the car batteries. I wanted that done as well. I called and talked to someone on the phone to make the appointment. We discussed it the type of car I drive which is a jeep wrangler. I explained that my jeep has two batteries. One main battery and one auxiliary battery. He acted like he understood and knew exactly what I was talking about. He never hinted at the that he had no idea how to check the auxiliary battery or access it. I dropped my jeep off at 7:30am. I decided to leave it there and not wait on it. I waited until 3pm to call and check on it since I felt like it had been an unusually long amount of time to have these few things done. Someone answered and didn’t know the status of my jeep and told me they’d call me back. They never called me back. I decided to show up to pick up my jeep around 6:30pm and they were still working on it. It turns out they sat on my vehicle all day because they had no idea how to access the auxiliary battery. It took them almost 12 hours to just check the charge on it. The battery was dead like I had already explained to them and after taking all day to access the battery, they did not even have the battery to replace it. They actually believed I was going to leave my jeep over the weekend so they could replace the battery on Monday. After I told them no, it took me them another 1.5 hours to get my vehicle back to me.After the insanely long process of checking the battery I already explained to them was dead, they gave me a quote to replace it, and it was $200+ more than a quote I got at a jeep dealership.I checked out and we went outside to do a walk around of my jeep before I left. I was checking the receipt and I didn’t see anything about a tire rotation. I asked if they did the tire rotation, and he said they completely forgot and told me to make another appointment. This was probably one of the more wild car services I’ve ever experienced. Nothing made sense. I ended up walking out of there paying almost 200 for an oil change and for them to mess around with my jeep for 12+ hours when it should have been done by noon. I will not be going back there. This is what I get for trying to support local business. Good luck!

Brought my car here for an oil change and for a diagnostic for the check engine light. I called a week prior and they told me I had to make an appointment so I did. Brought my car back on time at 9am. Called for an update around 2:30 and they had not even looked at it as “my ticket was next in line.” Called back for the 2nd time around 4:45 (with still no updates) and they said the technician just started looking at it and I stated I’d be there around 5:30 to pick it up…….instead they just decided to pull my car out of the technician lot. What’s the point of making an appointment if there’s no sense of priority and have my car sit around all day? Anyways….went to go pick it up and they handed me my keys without any explanation. I went to go drive my car out and it was unlocked. Very unprofessional.

As a mobile massage therapist, it’s really important for me to know basic car maintenance in case I’m stranded somewhere, keeping clients waiting. I’d hate to have to cancel on someone due to a dead battery or flat tire so I’m super grateful for the recent event with Women of Austin at Dave's Ultimate Automotive.The owner, Brad, gave us a brief intro then paired us each with a technician who works at the shop nearest us. Duke from the S 1st location spent 90+ minutes answering questions and showing me how to jump my car and change a flat tire. He was really kind and knowledgeable and I'm relieved to have a place now to get my car serviced which had been stressing me out since my previous mechanics moved out of south Austin. Another cool thing about Dave's is that the business is not commission based so I feel good knowing they won't try to upcharge me on unnecessary services.

Update on my previous four star review! It seems this business has gone downhill!I usually get an oil change & takes 1-2 hours. BUT TODAY 4 hours later with a 9am appointment previously made my car had not even been looked at! At 1:00 I had to ask if they forgot about me! Ridiculous ,Now there is permanent grease and dirt all over my car mat! & seat! & They never even addressed one of my issues with tire pressure! I had to call back !The last oil change 6 mos ago took 3 hrs & They never fastened my spare tire cover correctly after chemotherapy pressure so the Toyota cover blew off and was lost 300$ if I could even find one to match. !! I did get a dome lightbulb !Not sure if I can recommend this place anymore!Services: General repairs & maintenance

Phenomenal customer service!I did run into a few major issues with the shop while my car was being diagnosed. My main concern was the time it took for me to receive the vehicle back. Took 2 months rather than 2 weeks.Management went above and beyond in handling the situation. Very responsive and respectful. Extremely professional!

I've been going to Dave's Ultimate Automotive South for two years now, but no more. I was having some issues starting my car, and based on conversations with family, they thought it was the alternator. I took it over to Dave's Ultimate Automotive and dropped it off. They called me at 5:00 that day to let me know that it wasn't the alternator - the battery needed to be replaced. They presented me two options 1. A $360 replacement, or a $500 replacement. After speaking with friends and family, I asked why they were charging so much for a simple battery replacement, particularly when Autozone will put it in FOR FREE. The front desk person became flustered, talking about how the Autozone folks don't know what they're doing, how the labor has been paid out already, how they have no margins on battery replacement, etc. I drive a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer - not exactly the worlds most expensive car -I have no idea how they can claim it costs $100 in labor to replace a battery. I am in my first job out of college, and I appreciated before that Dave's felt like they were conscious of my budget - I felt railroaded after this past experience. I am not a car person by any means - I came to trust Keith with my car, as he seemed like a straight shooter. To his credit, I didn't work with him this past time - however, I no longer believe, after two years of coming to Dave's and thousands of dollars spent, that they operate in good faith and are not taking advantage of people's knowledge when it comes to cars. My AC also just stopped working in my car - prior to this past experience, this would be an easy call to go drop it off at Dave's Ultimate Automotive. At least I know where not to go! I would be extremely cautious in taking your vehicle here, as I am not convinced they are operating in good faith - it's unfortunate, because they seemed like good folks. I would just be very, very cautious - particularly for those of you budget-conscious drivers out there.

Dave's is the best! I've been to a few repair shops around Austin and no one was able to get my Chevy Equinox fixed up like this one. I had to have my car towed here by AAA and the guys were respectful, communicative, and transparent. My mechanic (Keith) was the nicest and made sure that my issues were resolved promptly. When I picked up the car, the guys at the front were hilarious and made sure to walk me through everything before I swiped my card. Highly recommend!!
