Very poorly run hotel, absolutely incompetent staff. I was there a few weeks ago for a work trip. The parking (which is forced valet) is $45 a night, yet is not manned much past dark,. Several nights I went out and came back after 10:00 and then I parked it myself in an outdoor lot right by the street because there was no valet man and you can't get into the covered parking lot otherwise. To top it off, they charged my credit card twice for the parking, first time I called they didn't fix it and I had to call again a few days later until it was finally resolved. Also, my key card quit working the last day (and the same thing happened to several of my coworkers) because the incompetent at the front desk can't enter a date properly into a computer. The toilet also ran in my room half the time after you flush. To top it off, the neighborhood is a dump, there was a bum right on the sidewalk steps into the hotel and I heard police sirens several times late at night. Not even close to what you'd expect from a supposedly nice hotel.

Close to campus if you need that, far enough away if you don't. Staff is exceptional and both friendly and knowledgeable.

Came in for an event and loved the venue, which is luxurious and quiet despite being in the middle of some of the busiest place in Austin. Nick and the concierge team were amazing and helped myself and the guests of the event feel welcome.

How can a hotel charge $800 per night!!!? And that was only two hundred $ cheaper than the first two nights!! Granted, we knew that going into it, so that was on us. For that price, I expected to be treated like a king (that didn't happen)! The valet parking was a disaster at night. Each evening after coming back from dinner in the city, we had to wait several minutes for the valet person to arrive. One night it was so bad I went to the front desk, which was deserted, to find help. I asked a random employee who happened by if they could help. They found another employee who actually ran to find the valet employee.
The room itself was decent but, more like a typical hotel suite since we did not stay in the hotel proper. At one point, the new bath towels provided had the most powerful smell of bleach that they were unusable.
Who knew that there was a Tom Petty Day and that celebration would be at the Ella Hotel. The pool area was closed when we attempted to sit out at 3pm. We were told we could use the rooftop pool at a neighboring hotel. When we arrived at the other hotel, the desk employee looked at us like we were nuts. After a few phone calls and verifying that we were staying at the Ella, we went to the rooftop pool.
Maybe it was me or just a bad weekend, but it seemed the staff was under-trained, overwhelmed, or a combination of both. I did not feel welcomed. Again, maybe its just me but, I'd like to think there are other, better, alternatives to the Ella.
Update: After talking to the general manager of the hotel, they made things right and offered us partial compensation for the misfortunes of our stay.
