The boat ramp is closed due to the drought so call if you have plans to head over for that. I'm disappointed that they closed the "courtesy dock" midweek for construction to pull it out more due to the drought and when I went there today (Friday) no one was working on it. There seems to be no urgency to open in time for this weekend and there wasn't any time given to prepare businesses for the closure of the dock. Something like this should be done on a Monday and planned out better. It is not as though the drought popped up 2 weeks ago. I am not an engineer, but if marinas can move their whole structures in 2 days I cannot see why a small dock cannot be done in the same manner. Especially when companies are paying them $1000 per boat to operate out of dam. Also, if you're going to Mansfield bring $5 cash per person. They don't take card, venmo, cashapp, promises, nothing else. You will have to turn around and come back. Disabled Vetrans are free.I will give credit to the staff there that it is clean. People are gross and they maintain the parks image well. There is a lot of broken glass on the trails but that's because people are disrespectful and don't clean up after themselves. The staff shouldn't be expected to go out and pick up after slobs who will probably do it again.Restrooms: Weird but the restrooms are locked up and there are Porta- potties on the outside. IDK if you ever been in one in 108 degree heat but it's not pleasant.Dog-friendliness: Dogs are welcomedPicnic area: There's lots of nice picnic tables.

Is it worth the admission fee? If you have a boat, definitely. If you’re just going for a picnic, um, sort of, I guess. Walking trail is scenic but short/limited.

It is one of my favorite spots to swim, and it is even better now that the boat ramp is closed (sorry, boaters). It is lovely for snorkeling near the shoreline and also for sunset. The water is super low now, so getting to the water is a bit more treacherous than normal, but it is very worth it. I've found a lot of cool fossils and primitive knives here, too. Definitely bring water shoes, the zebra mussels are sharp and there is glass too. Stop bringing glass bottles, people! I always end up picking up a bag of trash, I wish others were more respectful of nature. My kiddo loves the playground, too. He once got a splinter from a burr and the park rangers were so sweet and helpful.

This was a great easy dropping boat in and having fun on the lake. Lots of areas to eat at tables and enjoy the views.

The dam is best appreciated from afar. This "park" is nothing more than a mere parking lot. The views of the valley below are okay but you can't see the lake above. I tried standing on a wall for a quick pic when a quick siren sounded from a lazy ranger parked in the shade. There's a placard explaining the name but nothing about the workings of the dam, when it's used, or how it works. No drones permitted so your pictures are limited to what you can take if a bunch of concrete. I will definitely skip this part of my next tour when family comes to visit.

Great spot to pop in for SUP, or if you are lucky enough to have a boat, there's a large boat ramp. They have picnic spots here and you can set up along the beach with your gear (e.g., tent, inflatables). There are restrooms here and port o potties. It's not the Ritz, but it's good enough. They do charge a $5/person fee and they only accept cash, so come prepared!

It’s awful now!It used to be a good sightseeing and swimming place, with chairs and tables available for picnics, but not anymore. Water is low and dirty, they removed the chairs & tables too, and still they are charging people going there.

Snap! Months ago the park system changed their annual pass to PER PERSON, instead of annual vehicle permit. It's $80 per PERSON now. And, day passes are $5 per PERSON, no flat vehicle cost. Overall, I have mixed feelings about MDP. Love the location, the diving park, the "beach"...normally. Sadly, the drought has just ruined pretty much all local lake access (ramps). So, right now it's not very pretty. :(Trash and debris have always been a bit unsightly at MDP. Maybe they can pay someone to clean on the daily with the doubled fees? Just a thought. Ha!

For me it's my go to spot to drop my boat in lake Travis! However, because of it's popularity for a ton of parking and four lane ramp it gets crowded quickly and trailering your boat is a pain when it's busy because of the small dock. Other than that it's absolutely perfect. Enjoy. ?
