Food was hot and delicious. The waiter wasn't that aware of everytime my cup was empty so i had to put it at the end of the table in order to get a refill.

My favorite restaurant in Austin!! Been going here since I was in a highchair.Seating is remarkably fast for how packed this place always is.Food is incredibly consistent, and it happens that you have any problems with your order they'll make it again for you fast, and with no questions asked.Beautiful atmosphere, history all over the walls, team members & customers always smiling.Drinks are strong, and you will never leave hungry. Same-day-made complementary chips and spicy table salsa. Try not to fill up on chips if you can help it, because entree and appetizers are both all a LOT of food. I usually leave with leftovers that turn into a beautiful breakfast the next day.Personal favorite appetizer: Bob Armstrong Queso Dip. They just recently won a Best-In-Austin award for their queso dips, which is saying something.Personal favorite signature cocktail: Matt's Knockout Martini. As the name suggests, referencing the founder's professional boxing career, this is a POWERFUL drink. They don't let you have more than two of them. A one-two punch of these can really get to you, but it's tough to stop drinking it because it's so delicious. Be careful!Personal favorite entree: Janie's Combination Salad. A gorgeous dinner salad topped with your choice of protein and dressing, but I always go with the Beef Fajita and only-found-here Cilantro Vinaigrette. This one is a terrific decision for those of us trying to avoid carbs, too.You can get a drink and a dinner for $30 here, which is very refreshing in the big city that Austin has become. I always take my friends & family here that come from out of town. They also have vegetarian and gluten-free options, which is great.Remarkable service. Employees all seem happy to be here, which is very refreshing as well in the current economic climate. Managers seem to know all of their customers by name, which is a cool thing to watch in a restaurant that's been around for 70+ years.Five stars. Come to Matt's if you've never checked it out.Vegetarian options: They have something called a Vegan Bowl with rice, beans, veggies, guacamole and some other things that I often order myself even as a non-vegetarian or vegan. Healthy & Delicious.Dietary restrictions: Clearly labeled menu for vegans & gluten-free diners. I think some of the owners are gluten-free, so they make sure to cater to that stuff.Parking: There is a couple-acre parking lot, but sometimes they get so busy customers park on the grass!Kid-friendliness: Kids everywhere. Kid's menu, highchairs available. Kids love the fun-to-eat food.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp in the front and differently-abled accessible restroom stalls. Also handicap parking.

Kinda bland food. The Asadero Tacos had great flavor, everything else needed seasoning. Green enchilada sauce had good flavor, but seemed watery. Salsa was no bueno. Really thin, tomatoe-y flavor. No warmth. Chips were hard, kinda thick for chips. (Disclaimer: "We use Non-GMO corn in all our house-made corn tortillas and chips") Also, did not receive the grilled Quail, which we were all excited to try. (Locally sourced from Lockhart, TX, stuffed with cheese, poblano and mushroom.)

Overrated - We ate here because of an article we had seen that stated that Matt’s El Rancho had the best queso in Austin. We of course ordered the queso and to be honest, it tasted like Velveeta cheese mix to us. My daughter’s brisket tacos were so greasy that she couldn’t eat them as the tortilla fell apart. My wife and other daughter shared the fajitas which weren’t near as good as Lupe Tortilla’s fajitas. I had the cheese enchilada plate which again was just okay… I’ve have had better enchiladas at Chuy’s. Last thing, and we all thought it was strange that the water they brought us was in smaller glasses that was room temperature (no ice). Our bill with tip was nearly $92.00. I could have gone to Chuy’s twice for this price. We won’t be back.

Pretty great Mexican cuisine spot off South Lamar! Was very packed though, but it’s not uncommon. The food was also pretty good. Definitely try their tampiqueno platter and their green enchiladas. Shoutout to their server, Joshua, for providing an amazing experience for our whole group!

The food has become borderline inedible, it's extremely overcrowded, and their Mexican martinis are gross. I've had good experiences in the past but I think they just get so slammed they had to take shortcuts. Barely room to stand while you wait, loud and hard to move around in, food has made me sick to my stomach. The only thing I'll give them is they get the food out fast... a little too fast if you ask me

We went for lunch and shared the Bob dip (special queso), chicken grilled tacos, and chicken enchiladas "Christmas" (red and green). Everything was tasty and fresh! The beans were good and I even enjoyed the rice, which usually is just a "space filler" for me. We got pulled in by the neon sign and loved sitting out on the patio next to the fountain; really nice decor inside as well. The chips were really fresh. We had a leftover of one grilled taco and ate it for breakfast the next morning before heading to the airport...it was even good then! Try the frozen prickly pear margarita...it was very good. Great place to go alone or with a large group. Also our service was really fantastic, I wish I could remember his name.Vegetarian options: Normal vegetarian and pescatarian offerings you would expect to find at a Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant...quite a few options if you eat dairy/cheese.Parking: Humongous parking lot, it has a steep slope

Crazy busy place but was able to get seated after a short wait. Chips were only fair but the brisket tacos were excellent. Margarita on the rocks was a little on the warm side but was very smooth and hit home like a sledgehammer. Good service considering how crazy the place was. Would recommend but be prepared for a very busy environment.

Best fajitas I have ever eaten, in a beautiful atmosphere. Great service and wonderful place to spend time with your friends. Go for it!
