Prototype is the best vintage store in Austin. Perfectly curated. On the pricier side but I find it worth it considering you go and find exactly what you're looking for. I feel like I have to settle when I go thrifting at other vintage stores but I always find exactly what I need here. Workers are always so sweet and helpful and willing to start a dressing room right away. Plus it smells amazing! I'll always come back to Prototype when I'm visiting home.

I’m beyond amazed at the quality of vintage Prototype continues to offer. I’ve been shopping with them for 15 years and have managed to find something here every time I walk in. This gem isn’t catered to one type of style or decade. They really include it all! Their men’s section is not to be missed! I’ve found some incredible vintage tees here! Run don’t walk! They stock new items daily!

Quite a selection and variety of sizes. Well curated and reasonably priced. Even on a busy tourist weekend, it's not too crazy busy so easy to browse. Expect to spend at least 30 min! Small men's area, mostly ladies.

A gem! I spent so much time there, pulling so many items, and worried about the inconvenience, but they were SO kind, supportive, and assuring. Also, finally a vintage shop with more inclusive sizing; it was a safe space here for sure <3. My new go-to vintage store! I’m super appreciative of the kindness; it went a long way!

Excellent curating and kind service. Especially appreciated the variety of sizes, I wear a modern size 10 and many vintage shops have a limited selection above size 6. ♥

Absolute rip off prices. Almost every t-shirt is priced at $44, even though most belong on the racks of goodwill. Avoid this place!

Wow. The blonde woman with the curly hair was beyond rude. If I were the owner I would not want this girl representing my business. It was 6:50 and she was at the front door, I asked if she was open and she said "we close at 7." I replied "it's 6:50, would you mind if I just came in to browse until you close?" She then gave me major attitude and replied "that's in 10 min" and proceeded to shut the door on me. I have worked in retail and understand the annoyance of someone wanting to come into your store as you are closing, but it wasn't 7, it was 6:50! If you are the owner, maybe you should change your hours to represent the fact that you close at 6:50, not 7:00. I have money to spend, but won't be spending it here at a place that treats those who want to support their business like garbage!

As an all-things-vintage lover, I have visited many vintage stores, from the type where you dig through trash for hours, to the ultra high end / high price tag shops. I have to say, with confidence, that my experience at Prototype has been unparalleled thus far. The selection is wide and spectacular. Each item is intentionally handpicked so you’ll find many unique but wearable pieces for fair prices. For reference, I bought two 60’s psychedelic-print dresses for $75 and $54. I’ve truly never seen anything like them before. You’d spend the same at Urban Outfitters, for instance, but here you’re buying something one of a kind with a story. I had so much fun trying on a ton of items which is rare given my teeny size. When in Austin, this is the place for your vintage hunt! Thank you ladies for the wonderful experience!
