I wasn’t planning on writing a review, but after seeing that Dr. Jennifer Jordan joined the Roots Vet team, I felt like I had to share my experience.
I brought my 5-year-old male cat to Roots because he’d been vomiting frequently for almost two years. I was also there for routine vaccinations. During our appointment, I explained to Dr. Jordan that we had already tried several types of food—prescription, limited ingredient, novel protein—you name it. Her response was a mix of dismissive comments and strange theories, including the claim that hairballs “aren’t normal.” She seemed mildly concerned at first, but that quickly faded. Despite the ongoing symptoms and clear concern I brought in as a pet owner, her advice boiled down to: “Figure out what food works for him.” As if that wasn’t exactly what I’d already been doing for years.
No vitals were taken. No bloodwork ordered. No follow-up suggested. I left feeling like my concerns weren’t taken seriously—and honestly, like I was being made to feel like a bad pet parent.
Thankfully, I trusted my gut and got a second opinion at Modern Animal Veterinary Practice. Thank god, because within a short time, they diagnosed my cat with an enlarged spleen, swollen GI tract, bladder debris, and a damaged kidney due to a renal infarct. All of these things could’ve been caught sooner if Dr. Jordan had taken a more thorough approach instead of brushing me off.
I’m grateful my cat is now getting the care he needs, but I can’t help but think about how much unnecessary discomfort he went through because he wasn’t taken seriously the first time. If you’re looking for a vet who listens, investigates, and actually partners with you in your pet’s care—I’d strongly recommend going elsewhere.

Moved to Austin about a year ago and have had a couple of negative experiences at other clinics. Roots really listened to my concerns guided us while allowing us to make our own decisions about treatments for our dogs. Highly recommend!

It’s taken me a while to write this review because 2 out of the 3 vets here I do really like and would recommend. However, Dr. Lassin is someone I would not recommend. I came here a few times with my pets and had no issues until one of the last times I came in due to an emergency with my dog. I live a very non/low toxic lifestyle and opt for natural remedies rather than western meds - for myself and my animals. When I came in due to this emergency, I felt Dr. Lassin’s advice was not only fear based but very judgmental towards me wanting to try a more natural approach. My dog is doing terrific and I did nothing that this vet recommended - I went to my virtual holistic vet instead. When I came in to get her vitals checked, the same vet (Lassin) had some snarky remarks towards my natural approach. I’m extremely grateful that my dog is okay but for anyone looking for a “holistic” or “alternative” vet, I would say that it might be best to look elsewhere

We had such a wonderful experience at Roots Vet. Dr. Lassin and his entire team were incredibly warm, kind, and thoughtful from the moment we walked in. It was the first time I’ve ever truly felt listened to at a vet’s office. They took the time to explain all of our options clearly, with such a compassionate and root-cause-focused approach. We never felt rushed or pressured—just deeply supported and empowered to make the best decision for our dog, Luna.
The whole team operates with such integrity and transparency. You can feel how much they care—not just about animals, but about the people who love them. Usually, Luna starts shaking the second she walks into a vet’s office, but the energy here was completely different. The calming, warm atmosphere (and beautiful aesthetic!) immediately put her at ease. She looked so relaxed and comfortable, which honestly said everything.
Dr. Lassin was incredibly patient and let Luna take her time to settle in while he spoke with us. That in itself felt so respectful and rare. We left feeling confident, calm, and truly cared for. It was such a pleasant, reassuring experience. So grateful to have found this kind, skilled, and heart-centered team.

I have been part of the Roots Integrative Veterinary family since 2021! Dr. Sosa and the entire team always go above and beyond to ensure the best care for my two pups. Whether it’s routine checkups or last-minute emergency guidance, I always feel supported and confident they’re in great hands. It’s clear they genuinely care about each animal they treat. So grateful to have such a dedicated and knowledgeable team looking out for our fur babies!

We love Roots! Dr. Sosa and team have been taking care of our sweet boy for 3 years and we couldn't be happier with the care we've received. On our most recent visit we were leaving during a thunderstorm, the desk staff offered us a towel to keep Leo calm and dry- these little touches of care really make such an impact! Thank you Roots for all that you do! Highly recommend to anyone with a furry family member :)

I really love the care and attention Roots Vet gives our dog. Dr. Sosa is one of the kindest and most professional vets and the staff are all on their A-Game. I especially love that they try to use as many natural and holistic methods possible but give you the options.

My FAVORITE place for my pupper. Not going anywhere else . Besides the holistic approach for vet care , staff is so sweet and YOU GET TO STAY WITH YOUR PET through the visit. :’) My pups tail is always wagging through the visits accept for when the doc starts the check which is just out of nervousness and prior vet trauma. ? love love love ROOTS , thankyou to all the staff and doctors for taking care of Archie . you guys are my heroes !

My Ludo had to have a Mast Cell Tumor removed from his chest. He is a frenchie & I was extremely concerned about surgical.complications. The staff @ Roots did such an amzing job and he is recovering well. Thank you for taking such good care of my baby!

We are Roots loyalists! Dr Lassin has seen Koko through so much from anal gland cancer in 2020 to most recently helping me to decide about getting Koko’s spleen removed at age 12.5. I’m a #1 neurotic mom and Dr Lassin and the entire Roots team are so patient, thorough, and kind. Koko loves going there and always feels comfortable - especially in the acupuncture room. I highly recommend this team and it’s been incredible watching the practice continue to grow because of how amazing they are!! If you’re looking for educated, holistic, and kind health experts for your pets - look no further!

Absolutely love Roots! I started going to Roots since my dog sitter recommended them, been to Dr Sosa and Dr Lassin and loved them both! I have 2 yorkies, and my older one is a little more anxious since he's a covid dog, but they're always met with warm welcome from the staffs at Roots and I love how they allow me to go in and talk to the doctor myself. Boba had issues with few sebaceous cysts on various parts of his body and Dr Lassin prescribe herbal medicine for that and the bumps magically disappear! Roots is a little pricey but it's very worth it imo!

Everyone here is amazing! This the first time that I've been to a vet where I actually feel like they listen. So happy that I found this place. I've seen a few of the vets here and they're all great! They all listen and they explain everything and talk you through it. So different from other vets that I've been to with my cat. My cat also seems to prefer them to other vets we've been to in the past.
