About State Theatre
The State Theatre in downtown Austin, along with its sister venue the Paramount Theatre, serves as a vibrant hub for arts and entertainment, hosting over 550 events annually. The theaters are known for their beautiful architecture and good condition, with the Paramount featuring a stunning old-fashioned design that draws visitors from all over. The acoustics and seating in both venues are generally praised, offering comfortable, spacious seats and a great view of the stage. The State Theatre, often called the Stateside, is a smaller venue that hosts small productions and resembles a classic movie cinema house. It features stadium seating, cushy chairs, and a characterful atmosphere, though it is less extravagant than the Paramount. The theaters host a wide variety of events, including comedy festivals, world premieres during SXSW and Austin Film Festival, and the beloved Summer Classic Film Series. The staff is friendly and makes efforts to enhance the experience, despite some issues with room acoustics and stairs that can be challenging for older visitors. Amenities include a small bar, gender-neutral restrooms, and nearby parking options. Overall, the State Theatre offers a charming and enjoyable experience for visitors seeking quality shows in a historic and character-filled setting.
Epic historic theatre In the heart of Austin on Congress. Smells of old timey classic theatre concert hall. We saw William Beckman for his Holiday show and the entire experience was magical. Great drinks, easy access, great site lines and sounds. Just a wonderful experience!!
