Texas Traditions is on my bucket list to visit. My grandfather Leon Dunn (Van Buren, Arkansas) was Charlie Dunn’s brother. As I understand it, Charlie taught his craft of boot making to Lee Miller, the owner of Texas Traditions. Want to tour the shop and buy a pair of boots made in the Charlie Dunn tradition!

I have inherited my daddy’s stage boots, that I believe are 1950’s era Charlie Dunn boots.Daddy was a fiddle player his entire life and would also go in periodically to see a cobbler to re-sole his daily wearing boots, unbeknownst to me until recently, but I believe it was Charlie Dunn whom I met when I was with daddy in 1984, dropping off a pair of boots for repair. He was an older gentleman who was short and wore a leather apron if I recall.Daddy wore these on stage during the 50’s in the Austin area.

When I walked in there while visiting Texas, and it was a treasure trove of boots, tradition, and absolutely exhilarating! There is so much history and authenticity in that small custom boot shop within the urban sprawl of Austin! Countless tools and equipment only a grand master in the craft could name! These boots are without a doubt among the Best of the BEST footwear in the U.S.A, and it’s all because of the staff and owners Mr. Lee Miller and his wife Carrlyn are amazing professionals at customer service!

Lee and Carrlyn are genuine people and it was a very pleasant experience getting my feet measured for custom boots. Met everyone in the shop and their passion for boots was plain to see. Looking forward to the boots!!
