Worth the membership, but the place is a little dirty. It's also sad compared to places like the Doseum in San Antonio.
You'd think Austin could do better, tbh.

For the $300 we paid to use the room for our grandson's party, it was somewhat of a waste. While Lucy & the rest of the staff was very nice, the room was dirty, the kitchen sink was dirty. We couldn't use the refrigerator. it was dirty, it had someone else 's food & drinks inside it & the ice maker did not work.
When we reserved the room for 3:30, there was no disclaimer that "your child & their guests can play free for as long as they like" part of the fee did not apply to the 3:30 time slot (this was the only available time slot left for 10/19/24) as we were unaware the place closes at 5:00 p.m.
The thinkery is fine to take your child there to play, but not to use for a party. The no-frills $300 fee is not worth it. We will never reserve a room there again.

The Thinkery is great!
But the staff is not good at updating online when they're closed. They are closed today and we didn't know because it wasn't online and so we drove all the way just to find out that it is closed for maintenance today. That was frustrating! Never go without calling first to make sure they're open!
But other than that the place is great for kids! Lots of exploring and learning. We're really glad we found this place.

Like others have stated, it’s an expensive place to go for what it is. There’s not much to do and most kids get finished with it within 30 minutes. Nothing had been changed or added over time, aside from the tinkering/lego area. There should be more to do - and it should be better organized and cleaner. The other problem is overcrowding. It is CHAOS. The schools they allow are unsupervised- today there was 2 bus loads with only random parents following the kids around with no direction. Perhaps field trips should only be one day per week and clearly stated on the website so others can avoid it. My child was nearly in tears due to the utter chaos and noise level and I still can’t believe how bland and boring it is for the cost. We left after less than 20 minutes because there was no way for us to actually do anything with the level of mess and overcrowding.

It's was ok. My wife, me, and my daughter went. She is 4. I think parents should get in free.

We had no choice but to come on a Sunday, so we knew it would be crowded, but man, the parking in the area was terrible! The McBee parking garage was so full, people were bumper to bumper just circling all the floors. Thankfully the Thinkery validated for 3 hours, so we ended up only paying $4 for 5 hours of parking. The Thinkery itself felt a bit chaotic. As with many similar places, you'll find kids playing without their parents nearby. A few times we were waiting to play something and the child was on it for at least 10 mins when clearly there was a line waiting to play. The parent was just standing on the side on the phone, and didn't even have the courtesy to encourage their child to let others have a turn. The facility is great - lots to do and much that kids would enjoy. But I think I overestimated a little - I'd heard such great things that I thought my kids would be able to last a few hours...nope. They lasted only about 2. and then we went across the street to the playground to play. Not sure I would want to bring my kids to play at the Thinkery again. It was great as a one time visit though!

After visiting for the first time and considering its GA Admission and Membership prices I believe this place needs to be better maintained. Theres a lot of foot traffic and the carpets in the second floor need a cleaning. The furniture for babies and toddlers needs to be replaced. There was foam noodles bitten off by children. Maybe having employees going around for a look around to remove toys that are damaged can be helpful. Definitely overpriced admission for this museum.

This place is truly amazing. Your kids will be having too much fun to notice that they’re about science. There are enough stations to keep them happy for hours, but with free reentry, you can take a break, go for lunch or a walk in the park, and come back for a second round when you’re ready.Pro tip: there is no way your kids are going to avoid getting wet in the water area. They have a very limited number of waterproof aprons and Crocs available for them to use, but even if you get your hands on these, your kids will get wet. Plan ahead.

This place is a rip off for what you get. Given the condition it’s in, admission should be free until they clean it up, shampoo the carpets, fix broken activities and stations and replenish inventory. I spent $128 for 7 ppl and this was the biggest waste of money in Austin. We left after 20 min. Go spend your money on a meal instead of this tired, worn out, “museum”…

**Update** My family and I have been priced out of the Thinkery. $18 a ticket just isn’t affordable for my family and I anymore. In the 8 years since my first review they haven’t updated ANYTHING except for 1 little section. Still the same stuff, most of which is showing many years of wear and tear and a lot of things just sitting there that have become inoperable. Last time I visited I noticed only 1 security camera on the stairs. I was shocked that in a place with so many little children they wouldn’t have that security in place. They don’t double check anyone coming in and out. Someone could easily walk out with a kid that wasn’t theirs. Most every kid place I go to has a strict, monitored check in/out policy. We had a membership for many years, but my family is no longer going to do it.**old review **This place is an awesome place for kids AND adults. My wife and I don't have a child old enough to go yet, but we went there for a Google party and had a really good time. It's a great place for kids to use their imagination and learn things about science in the process. My favorite part is the flash wall that flashes a print of your shadow on the wall.

It was fun, but not as much to do as I would have liked....especially since it was almost $20 to get in. They did validate parking, so that helped.

We love going to the Thinkery and frequent it about 3 times a month. Our 4 yr old autistic son loves the shadow/light room, the farmers market, and the water current exhibits the most. We even threw his 3rd birthday party in their birthday/events room. They have discounted fees for Texas STAR (SNAP) members as well as days/times with free entrance for everyone. Parking in the garage is easy since the Thinkery offers 3 hour parking validation. I highly recommend the Thinkery!!!

Excellent place for kids to play and explore. I wish we have something like this in Dallas
