Very rude employees - thought I was stealing and followed me around the store to the cashier register. I go there to DAILY to shop all the time and won’t be returning. Very uncomfortable and unprofessional.

This location has a better product selection than the Guadalupe store- but way worse customer service, in fact it’s horrible. I know customer service is on an overall decline, but small grocery stores like Wheatsville must stay competitive and provide services including customer that will keep customers coming back. If someone is not a people person or does not like fulfilling their job responsibilities then maybe don’t put them on the register, maybe stocking would be a better match. Having been a manager before myself I can see that the management is part of the problem.

Everything in the store is very high quality. From supplements to produce wheatsville has the best items to choose from. Only downside is that the cashiers and people who serve the breakfast tacos have 0 social skills. No greeting or thank you, just silence from them the whole time. Some even seem high or just out of their mind. Inclusivity is nice but they need people who are passionate about wheatsville’s role in the community. Their managers are nice and there is one older cashier who is always in a great mood when I see her. It’d be nice to see her in charge of the customer service around the store cause it’s just terrible.

Disrespectful and aggressive staff/management. I was about to go in and there was a young girl (couldn't have been more than 14) on the covered front patio, who was very obviously distressed and crying. A man who seemed to be the manager was telling her to get off the porch, and she kept saying that her older brother was still in the store. At first I thought she was having a mental health crisis because of how scared she looked (a few stores away, I saw her again and she was definitely not in a mental health crisis, she was just being harassed by a fully grown man and had a very natural reaction to that). I asked her if she was okay, and she said that she couldn't leave without her brother. Lo and behold, a moment later her brother and his wife came out of the store and they left all together. The manager was obviously on some sort of power trip and felt really good about himself after harassing a literal child who had not done anything wrong. The manager never mentioned anything about shoplifting or anything, it did not seem like the girl did anything wrong beside stand outside while her brother was in the store. I just checked the temperature and it feels like 108° right now. To make her stand in the parking lot instead of the covered patio for no reason is horrible. It's a big patio and there was no one else on it so it's not like she was taking up space that was being used. When I spoke to the manager after the family left, he ignored me and would not look me in the eye. Wheatsville has lost my business permanently. I have lived in Austin my entire life and I never expected this behavior from Wheatsville. The two staff who were involved was a short man in his maybe late 40s or 50s, and a tall ish woman, both had brown hair. Shameful, to say the least!! This was the South Lamar location. She was definitely treated this way because of her skin color, I have seen many people on the porch waiting before with no issues. I saw other comments saying similar things, I'm not surprised.

ATTENTION UPPER MANAGEMENT : I m a semi regular at the Lamar location and my experiences here over the years have mostly been positive, until recently. Y’all got this woman checkout clerk who seems hardly human. Her knuckle tattoos read “sick girl”cuz she did not have a name tag on. I’m very concerned that this individual does not represent wheatsville in a friendly or positive manner whatsoever. How this person got hired is beyond me. The negative energy she exudes just about makes me lose my appetite. It’s almost as if she is trying to poison others with her negativity and I just think that has no place at the co op. I’m a concerned customer and I’d tell that witch to get on her broomstick and fly far far away. As the saying goes it only takes 1 bad apple to spoil the bunch.

I just love the feel and vibes of the place — it’s very cozy and clean. They also have a lot of hot readymade food, and all their selections for things like produce is of high quality and usually organic.

What happened to Wheatsville? I want to buy my produce there but have to go to Central Market for consistency of quality - I never know if I'll be able to pick up everything on my list. The garlic was so old some of the pods were mushy and shrunken. The greens are inconsistent in how much is in a bundle, and even so, the bundles are always small compared to Central Market. All this and you charge premium prices. That's really offensive. I don't get it. Why would you even have these limes for sale? And not even in a bargain bin.Would someone respond to this post?

This place was incredible when I was a local years ago, visiting friends and was so sad to see the changes

They used to be much less expensive back in the day, but this place is an Austin original. I was sad when they replaced their hot sandwich station with a taco station. They will have very affordable plants for sale like succulents on occasions. Overall, this place is really cute if you’re looking for a delicious healthy midday snack.

They have specialty items it's hard to find anywhere else, like organic masa, sheep's milk yogurt, and buckwheat groats.
