Motel 6 is a chain of budget motels in both Canada and the United States. Founded in Santa Barbara, California, in 1962, Motel 6 now operates Studio 6, an extended stay franchiser of hotels. In the year 2000, Motel 6 opened their first international location in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. In 2008, there was a nationwide remodel of all of the rooms and their amenities, earning them a 2010 Travel and Leisure Design Award for their rooms. Motel 6 opened their 1,100th property the following year in Cleburne, Texas. In 2012, Motel 6 was sold to the Blackstone Group for $1.9 billion.
