“The Helotes Lions Club is a great organization serving the community. Most know of the Lions Club through their work in helping people with vision testing, gaining low cost glasses, collecting glasses to be re-used with new prescription lenses, and medical research to cure blindness. But, they also have the global causes of diabetes, hunger, the environment, childhood cancer, and support local Helotes community needs. Money for such causes comes from public donations, businesses, and local club activities and events. For example, the Helotes Lions Club has a weekly bingo activity which is fun and popular with the local community, and serves to support charity. As to membership in the Helotes Lions Club, anyone can apply to join the Lions Club. It has a very low cost fee and then they too can be a leader/helper to improve their community and make a difference in people's lives. I would describe the Lions Club as a 'service above self' non-profit charity organization.”

“The entire staff at Project Mend was very professional and went above and beyond the call of duty from beginning to end. I was on the waiting list for a year and kept calling Project Mend to see if a scooter was available. From Emily (case manager) calling me to tell me that a scooter was available, to Carlos (supervising mechanic) hooking me up with a lightweight scooter, and then to Michael (director) who delivered a working power cord to me at Walmart on his way home from work when mine malfunctioned, everyone was very courteous and helpful. I’m a big fan!”

“Lorenzo W. was a great instructor. I really learned a lot from this course. It wasn’t very expensive, and it was easy to sign up and attend class on Zoom. This program allowed me to have a positive outcome, from a seemingly hopeless situation.”

“Great Lodge with fantastic members. Wednesday burger night is great as is Sunday football. Don't be fooled by the chill exterior. The interior has a recent renovation and wonderful feel. Great for weddings, receptions, family gatherings or any other community functions. I recommend and will return.”

“Great place, animals are reasonably priced and seem well taken care of. Handful of volunteers and other workers to ask questions to. My family visit almost every weekend jusy for something to do, and almost every time we come there is a completely new rotation of animals here. Here and there some will stay for a while but most of the tkme its not extended stays for any of these animals. Only complaint is that the bigger dog buildings are huge echo chambers, and you can hardly hold a conversation or hear anything at all when the dogs are barking their heads off. I cant imagine thats good for human hearing, let alone dogs hearing which is more sensitive. Overall great place.”

“I've never been inside the Clubhouse during operation hours. But I hear great things about it from the people I know who go there. I like the building and the stuff I see within.”

“It's nice what they do. But there's still a sad feeling knowing that these animals are there to enjoy only a short last part of their lives then to die. Offering them this comfort is a great opportunity indeed. You cannot visit as far as I know.”

“Great education for great price. Wish they would let us change to another class, space available, when we can't make one. Not sure what the downside of that would be.”

“Joe Sanchez and the CyberTexas Foundation have been incredibly supportive with CyberPatriots. They assisted in securing a facility for my team to compete, and they provided images for teams to practice throughout the season. Additionally, they organize key events such as the Mayor's Cyber Cup and Cyber Cup Friday, as well as Cyber Threat Defender competitions and summer cyber camps. I am truly grateful for the support of Joe and the CyberTexas Foundation in guiding and empowering my students on their cybersecurity journey.”

“As an Active duty Soldier, I love that Paws for purple hearts have trainings that involve us. I love being able to go and learn how to train service dogs and also feel relief by doing it. The staff are all amazing. I had a chance to meet Dani, Jenny, Erica, and Bella and they are so amazing to do such a talented job and share the experience with the Soldiers. Thank you”

“Goodwill is good for getting most items a family may need on a budget. It's donated goods in clean working order so inventory can be random. However I have found nearly new small cooking pots, a Ryobi Router for $14 with case valued at nearly $100 and it works perfect.

If you need to get off your feet and on a budget you can find most things. Donations of goods and resellable items go to stores and the money goes
towards opening new stores which creates .ore jobs.

They also have free employment services at some locations as well as a small school for Truck driving and nursing.

When my dad passed away, we kept what we wanted but had loads of furniture and household items in great shape so donated it all. I hope it helps a family in need. Good Job! Goodwill.”

“This is one of the best non-profits to support in San Antonio. Robert and Rose Reyes make volunteering fun. Bonnie and thr office staff are polite and efficient. And the ways they serve the elderly within our community ensures that everyone ages with dignity and with love. While this is a religiously based organization, nothing is forced on thr volunteers or recipients of rhe services. These are simply good people who genuinely love and care for the members of their community.”

“I usually have a good time whenever I go to this goodwill. There’s always so many cool things the people are always friendly except for Carmen C today. She not only made it uncomfortable and annoying while checking out she made unnecessary comments while scanning items. She kept scanning the same items over and over again making it seem like we were trying to hide the items she had already scanned??? She then proceeded to ask her manager to check the item that it wasn’t scanning since she already SCANNED THE ITEM I even told her it’s the same item she scanned on the screen. She literally told us in the beginning you CANT scan an item twice she then said never mind to the manager I’m assuming and proceeded to ask us if we wanted the item? Like hello? Isn’t that why we are buying it? She was just unpleasant overall. She made it seem like we stole an item we payed for. It’s a literal goodwill why would I steal something from GOODWILL. Besides that it’s always a fun goodwill they just act like they’re a actual store and put outrageous prices on things when it’s literally donated. Like who’s going to pay $50 for some busted shoes?”

“Ms. Mendiola is the best. This program was unfortunate to have to take, but I learned a lot even though it was a lot to take in. I needed to hear everything and learn what I learned and the environment made it a safe place to do so.”
