I went to Athens Hotel because I work in the area with Local 51 erecting stages and setting up shows for ballet and such. The Hotel is in a perfect location that enables an individual to easily access everything without a car. Very well priced and comfortable.

AC didn't run even though I turned it on, bed seems to have bed bugs as I got rash on my body after 3 nights. Location wasn't good either but I guess that's understandable because it is in downtown.

I had to be moved to 3 different rooms and each one had an issue. The first room had a roach in it. The second room had no heat that worked. The staff knew the rooms heat didn’t work. The third room had a roach in it as well. They refused me a refund and quite frankly are unprofessional. They had no front desk rep at 8am. The front desk people at night were making personal calls on speaker asking “for booty” at the front desk. I don’t recommend

Looks old and suspicious outside especially at night , but pretty decent for last minute. Pretty clean more than I expected .$20 extra for internet and other miscellaneous things he mentioned154 +20 for one night ??? I don’t feel it’s worth it but..,.. we needed a place really close to Toyota centerOwner is sweet and understanding, he took us in a late check in at 1130 which we appreciated (already had reservation)Walkability: Really close to a parking lot , no parking for hotel (must pay)

I do recommend this hotel because of the staff. They are friendly, hard working and genuinely nice people. I am very happy that my stay supports their employment. Some staff only speaks basic English and I saw some other guests’ comments here complaining about the staff with disabilities, I think supporting employment to disadvantaged population greatly enhanced the meaning of my stay.I would recommend this hotel to people with good travel experience, flexibility in time, and critical demand about location. The rough part was that it is a bit over priced, the facilities are old (things can break off from walls) and rooms are a bit noisy. There might lacks things and you will need support from staff that only work in the day hour. There are stairs and room space is limited, not suitable for wheelchair or huge luggage. This hotel is probably the only cheap option in downtown, but if you are only here for visa application to the consulates, which only takes half a day and a Uber ride would easily make it, you might consider other locations like Chinatown which gives huge variety of food for good price. The food in downtown are overpriced, probably for boring business people who don’t have much other pursue.

Okay. Here we go. Parked car in pay lot next door because we had no idea where to park for hotel. Went to check in and was told on top of what we had already paid we needed to pay a “sanitation fee”, he could not/would not explain what this is exactly. Well, they have you by the short hairs because there’s no refunds, so I fork over another $130.00. After paying this “mystery fee” I was taken outside to show me where to park. We walk around back of the hotel and he points to a parking lot two blocks away! Did I mention that I’m disabled? And they lock the lot up at 10:00 pm so you can’t get your car out and if you were to go out you wouldn’t be able to get in! I told him there’s no way I could be making that walk myself and I sure wasn’t going to let my wife walk it alone. Not even strapped. This is a seedy part of downtown Houston to say the least. Guy with no shirt sleeping by a building. Homeless people all over the place. To the managers credit he did let me take his space once he was gone for the day. No elevator so we had to lug all our stuff out of the truck up stairs. No one offered to help. The room seemed somewhat clean until I really looked around. Dust of many decades covered the walls, the broken blinds and the smoke detector had so much dust caked in it I’d be surprised if it worked. The phone didn’t work and when I told him about it he just stared at me. Didn’t say anything. Just stared. The toilet paper holder was busted so they left half a roll on the vanity. There was hair stuck to the shower curtain! ? They leave just a few sweet&low and no creamer for the nasty in room coffee maker so I go down to the lobby for the advertised “Continental Breakfast” not only was there no breakfast but not even coffee made, so I made some and went outside to smoke and ponder my life choices. We stayed two nights and no one cleaned or even made our bed. Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT BOOK THIS DUMP! Oh yeah. almost forgot. They advertise that they have a bar. Ha! No freaking bar!Safety: You’ll think God you’re in Texas and can open carry a firearm.

I reviewed this dumpster fire on Google as well I just need to make sure as many people as I can reach know how bad this place is. From the extra charge they put on you for "Sanitation" and parking to the nonexistent "Continental Breakfast" is a scam they perpetrate because they have a No Refund Policy! So we were trapped in this Twilight Zone and had to pay another $130.00. Why I didn't turn around and go get a different hotel outside of downtown is a question I'm still asking myself. If you do decide to stay here, here are something's you should know. Pack light because there's no elevator and at least on the days we were there no one offered to help get everything out of our truck and into the room. You'll want to remove anything of value, because if you don't there's a good chance one of the many Homeless that hang around will probably help themselves to whatever you left behind. Make sure you have your cellphone, because the in-room phones don't work. If you drink, byob because even though they advertise that they do, there is no bar. Bring your own pastry or cereal because even though they advertised a Continental Breakfast there was none when we were there. And from what I've read, when they do have it, it's so nasty you wouldn't want it anyway. Bring bug spray because there will be cockroaches! Bring spray bleach or something like that because the tub is gross (Hair from previous occupants) stuck to shower curtain. Bring your allergy meds if you're allergic to dust because there are decades of it in the room. (smoke detector) was chocking on it. If you have no standards and like to live dangerously then this is the place for you.

!! Don't bother. This is not an accommodating hotel/motel. Do not listen to anything they say they will provide to you. Best stay away. Hidden and insane fees everywhere. Parking is not worth it and despite them saying you'll be accommodated, they still manage to screw you over. Disgusting place and the least welcoming staff. Within the first couple of minutes the staff assisting us goes outside and talks to her friends and you can hear the staff being inappropriate and unprofessional while within earshot. The man who "assisted" with parking is a total unprofessional misery man who shouldn't be in an industry about customer service. Oh, that's right because this place isn't about customer service it's about trying to scam you every which way possible.Ending up leaving at 3am when the owner threaten to kick us out after being belligerent and ignorant.

The owner of this place hires mostly homeless and recovering addicts to run the hotel as their inexperienced services can be obtained in exchange for one of the cheap rooms rather than a professional salary so do math on service you may get.Employees have disappeared with contents of cash registar before. This has not been Athens hotel since 1920s as claimed but is an older renovated building. The owner is from Greece and tries to capitalize off misfortune of people with disabilities to operate with most minimal expense.Even though it smells like smoke DO NOT get caught smoking there. Just read reviews.Do not bring alcohol to this property either. Read all reviews. Good place for overnight IF you can't afford others.Nearby activities: A few blocks from Convention CenterWalkability: Lots of places to walk to

The first time I went to the hotel I was a little shock and nerves and left. I came back this month ( July) because I had to attend the event . Everyone was so professional and kind, especially the Director Of Operation ( KiKi H Boone) ,everyone was able to be identified staff had uniform on and ready to assist me . A young gentleman assist me by showing me how to get to my room and once I made it to my room I couldn't believe what I was seeing The room was outstanding it was so clean and fresh I just had to extend my stay. Breakfeast was good. The place is under new management . A lady name Ann gave me breakfeast she has a beatiful sense of humor . Congradutions to all the improvements.

They do not give you a refund at all, claiming that they do not have a system to give you your money back if situations and/or emergencies happen. All they will do if you attempt to cancel your reservation is give you a voucher for only their Athens hotel company.

The city of Houston Health department was inspecting the food service process found it to be out of compliance. The waffles are not good the stuff they is expired. The coffee station is surrounded with roaches. The owner Over charges guest to help pay off his debit to the SBA . He pays employees under wage which is considered labor trafficking and makes false credit card disputes after spending money he lies to the credit card company and expects to have employees lie for him. He has illegal people working when they are not authorized to work in the United States he manipulates the IRS by doing a false write off for these illegal workers. The lies to the Texas work force commission saying he pays employees fairly no not true. The fire code officers will keep coming because their fire exits are out of code and their fire extinguishers are out of code. This business will soon close down because it's not complying with the law.I recommend for you not to go here their parking lot is unsafe they break in the cars no cameras are working the gate is not secure think before you go there.

My stay was very pleasant, the room was clean, all the staff were very friendly and they have an excellent location for when you have to attend a concert in Houston.

Excellent spot for an overnight stay after a concert. House of Blues and Ford Theater are about a block away, making for easy no-driving travel. If you manage your expectations appropriately, this is a fine place to stay.Everything else feels very... Exactly what you'd expect from the outside on this one. More motel than hotel kind of vibes. The place seems to be a converted apartment building and there are a bunch of surprise incidental fees that don't get brought up in the ticket price, like a $20 cleaning fee or $30 for parking.Speaking of parking, the lot they have is on a different street entirely and in the back section of some building. It's not that far away and it is a gated lot, but if you are the kind of person who doesn't like to be too separated from their vehicle, this might make you uncomfortable.Beds are some kinda cheap box springs. The lobby needs some real help in organization and cleaning up to make it more inviting. I didn't hate my stay, especially because it did exactly what I needed it to be, but it wasn't anything to write home about.

The rooms DON'T include a patio as advertised even though I called and spoke to John and he assured me that they ALL came with patios when in fact it's the roof with 3 park benches and two portable ashtrays. The hallways were sweltering hot! No air conditioning at all in the hallways. The "hot breakfast included" is a Joke! (See Picture)
