I recently rented a vehicle for a business trip and I requested a standard size vehicle and they gave me a midsize SUV which was fine. The reason why I gave the above rating is because this was my first time booking from budget una long time, I usually use enterprise, and the damage waiver protection for 3 days was $123 (very high compared to enterprise). Also, I was supposed to return it 5:30pm and I dropped it off 5:57pm and I was charged for those extra minutes. Customer service said there is a grace period of of 29 min before charging extra which I’m still under that timeframe. I left the tank 1/2 full and was charged $9.99 per gallon which I was never told what the price of the gallon would be (it wasn’t posted on the wall neither). If I knew this, I would put gas myself at $2.89 a gallon. Lesson learned. I’ll stick to enterprise.

Downtown Houston location. They had to wait for the airport to get car rental returns so the car transport people could bring them to this downtown rental location. I waited over an hour for my reserved car. I felt like Jerry Seinfeld.. “You know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them.”The ladies and guys working there were pleasant and the only reason I gave any stars for this review.

I will NEVER EVER rent a car from Budget again. I rented a car and return it with no damage. The windshield did not have a crack in it. After I return the car a couple of days later I got a email telling me to return the car. I call them and told them I did return it. They could not find the car for 3 days. I told them that when I turned in the car that I told the young lady that the oil light came on and that maybe it was in the shop. Later when I call to find out it they found the car, I was told yes they did find it and not to worry. Now today I get a letter in the mail telling me I have to pay $404 for a windshield replacement because it was damaged. And I can not dispute it. I must pay it. THIS CAR DID NOT HAVE A DAMAGE WINDSHEILD!!! So they can say what ever and make you pay for damage. Not good Budget.

Return policy is very inconvenient and obviously a way to cheat you out of more money. If I’m returning a rental car just a couple of hours later than the 24 hrs window, why would I be charged for another full 24hrs? What a scam! Also, some of their employees do not explain everything fully. I was forced to extend for another 24hrs since I wasn’t able to make the return time (I was driving out of town and hit some traffic on the way back). I asked if I could return at a drop off location, but their response was, “yes you can-at the airport, but you’ll be charged another full day so you’re better off just extending for another 24hrs. You can drop off tomorrow (Saturday)”. I said that was fine and arrived at 1:05pm to return the vehicle on Saturday. I thought I was arriving early (since 24hrs later would put me at a 4pm return on Saturday). The man closing the gates said they were closed, he closed at 1pm. I explained my situation and how the woman on the phone when I called to extend the rental (since I was unable to make it back on Friday), never informed me of their open hours on weekends. He was sympathetic but his hands were tied. I understand and went to drop off the following day, Sunday. The manager “tried” to help me and comp’d a few charges, but still charged me for a full 24 hrs on Sunday. She explained how her hands were tied as well. Not upset with her but annoyed by Budget’s policies and fees. With a name like “Budget” you’d think they’d be more budget friendly- ie, not have ridiculous charges for extending a rental by an hour or two. I think I’ll stick with enterprise from here on out. At least they have easy accessible after hour drop off locations and policies.

They called me 30 minutes before my reservation to tell me that they wouldn’t be able to honor it! They didn’t give no explanation or nothing! I needed it to travel for business!

Really poor customer service. I reserved (and paid for) a car in advance. When the employee put my license into a machine it returned a ‘sad face’ and with no further instruction she said that was the end of the road and she could absolutely not rent to me and dismissed me. Apparently, this is because my license is enhanced (which means I’ve been vetted and cleared to pass us/Canada borders without passport). This is insane. I can’t hold it against the employee if the machine couldn’t read my license - but I was extremely disappointed that she had no empathy in how much this inconvenienced me - she didn’t help cancel my reservation or refund it, she didn’t help me contact or find another rental place - just basically said get out. It was a terrible experience and I won’t be trying budget again.

No customers service!! Over charges!! when you return your car they will not give you a receipt. They will not walk the car with you. Then they add extra charges to the invoice. Stay away from budget rent a car you’re only get an ulcer. They are horrible.

Gina has been renting cars to me for the passed 5 years to go camping in New Braunfels TX. Car or SUV are always cleaned and ready to go upon arrival.
