I have been consigning and sometimes shopping at the Charity Guild of Catholic Women for more than a decade and am so pleased at how much the shop has grown. I have visited at least 70% of the thrift stores in Houston, and the Charity Guild is the best I have experienced! I am also always impressed by how many children's charities benefit from the shop proceeds. They should really highlight this even more in the shop. These fierce ladies deserve recognition for their accomplishments! I also recommend following their social media. Their Instagram is the cutest!! Consigning: They are very clear on their website about their consigning process, which is so helpful. The previous process required standing in line and they had only a few appointments available on weekends for those unable to come during the week. While I always met the funnest, cutest people standing in line when I was able to come, the new appointment-only process is even better for us time-poor folks! Nowadays, one must sign up on their website for an appointment a few weeks prior and you can choose to receive text and email reminders. At the appointments, the volunteers were so helpful and just as kind as before. I often feel like a sweet, fabulous auntie is looking through my closet when they go through my consignments. I usually stick to consigning nicer quality items and donating others that are more casual. They also accept donations, which you can drop off almost any time the shop is open or during a consignment appointment. Sometimes they get inundated, so it is helpful to check their website or call. When I have donated, they have always provided a receipt for tax purposes. Shopping!! This shop has always been well organized and full of treasures for every taste. The sizes and styles available are pretty inclusive, too. I recommend arriving early, especially on Fridays and Saturdays because the shop is so popular. Parking is abundant and there is an additional lot across the street that is clearly marked. I have found the volunteers in the shop to mostly be helpful and fun to be around when shopping. As in any shop, everybody can have a bad day, so try not to take it personally if someone is grumpy, the next volunteer you encounter will be a sweetie. They have so much inventory and have expanded the men's and furniture sections. For all types of items, the quality is usually very high. This standard is helpful because nothing is more of a bummer than spotting something cute then realizing a drawer is broken or hems are frayed. In summary, the Charity Guild of Catholic Women is the best thrift store in Houston. It has clear, efficient processes for consigning and is a joy to shop at. I have introduced many friends and loved ones to the shop who "would never buy other people's old clothes!" Guess what? They become big fans and cannot believe the treasures they find!

I always enjoy visiting your store. Today, however, I noticed high prices in a variety of items that can be obtained new at those prices or lower. A small box with screws $8.00, for example, and a tool caddy for $76.00.

I just started bringing my items for consignment to the Charity Guild Shop of Houston. The first time I took my items for consignment, the volunteer ladies in the shop did not acknowledge me by saying hello or asking me if I needed help. I was standing in front of the volunteer for ~ 1 minute while she continued to finish the job she was working on (tagging items). She ignored me as if I was not standing in front of her, however, once another consignor arrived with her items to be assisted, another volunteer assisted her first instead of myself. I ignored this incident and continued to wait to be addressed/acknowledged by the staff (volunteers). There were several woman in the consignment drop off and was ignored by all of them, of which , two of the ladies were having personal conversations in the corner of the room.Today , I also had an appointment for dropping off items for consignment. The same lady who ignored me the first time was working. I asked her if I could use on of the carts to transport my items from my car to the inside of the consignment drop off area. She stated "I will have to unload and carry my items myself, that the carts were not to be used for helping bring items into the shop."However, on my first visit the volunteer allowed the consignor to use the cart to unload her items. When I questioned the volunteer about this issue, she became very rude and DISMISSIVE to me. I left the donor site with my property and I will never go back. All of the volunteers at this shop are rude, dismissive and selective in who they treat with respect. The differences that I have observed at the shop are blatant, as far as ,how they choose to treat some groups of people versus others. The shamefulness of the situation is that this is a Catholic charity store and this treatment towards consignors does not represent what the "church" should be representing. SHAME ON THEM !!!!!!!!!! BEWARE !!!!!!!!!

I was body shamed here by an older woman.I love shopping here, I always find art and clothes that I adore. The other day I was in line for the dressing room, the attendant was a younger lady, and there was an older woman who was also a worker next to her. I counted my items with the younger woman and I handed her a shawl/scarf on a hanger and asked her if she could keep it outside the dressing room for me (a common request). The older woman standing next to her said in a snarky tone, “THAT will fit you??”I turned around and told her pointedly that it was a scarf. It was a very inappropriate interaction. I cannot believe that this older woman had the gall to body shame me… Please keep in mind I am a beautiful young woman and I am active and healthy. The staff here needs to be spoken to about this. I was a bit taken aback by the interaction. I grew up being body shamed and I have been recovering from bulimia for a few years now. This lady was very lucky that I have enough self confidence now to know that I didn’t deserve that comment. No one does.
