It’s difficult to rate this company because I have yet to receive my DNA results which I submitted a sample a month and a half ago and now am being told it will be another month and a half because of ….well I am not sure why because it wasn’t explained to me. I’ll wait to get the results and then give a current product and service rating. My advice is if you utilize their services be prepared to wait and wait and wait…

Family Tree DNA sells genetic tests for genealogical research. Currently, four different tests are available, and they range in price from $79 to $449. Two years ago, I purchased the least expensive test, the Family Finder test. I wanted to compare its results to those of competing companies. Today I logged in to view my results again. Attached to this review is a photo of my ethnicity estimates. These ethnicity estimates do NOT seem to be as accurate as competing companies' estimates. I feel disinterested in using other features on Family Tree DNA's website. I may build a family tree there, and I may pay additional money to learn about my health risks, but I already obtained that information from competing companies, and I like those other companies better.

Customer service is horrible. I hope the results of my DNA tests (forthcoming) are accurate. I gave Family Tree DNA a tentative rating of 3. I'll update it higher or lower, if warranted, based on my continuing interaction with the company.

This online DNA testing site is very unprofessional and leaves much to be desired. They are liars and don't live up to their promises. I purchased a kit in error .... the rep told me to refuse it or send it back and I would get a refund. It is getting close to 2 months now and I have yet to receive my refund. I caled my bank today and explained to them what happened filing a dispute against FAMILYTREEDNA. I sent this company 3 or 4 emails and no-one reaches back to me. They lie and make promises they don't keep... all they want is your money and provide you with poor quality services. I even question how good their test results are. If you smart go somewhere else and do business.

After one successful test, we ordered DNA tests for the extended family - but never received them. For over 5 months now, we've been calling and emailing the company, asking to receive the results of the tests or a refund. The company claims, without proof, that the samples were not usable. We have seen no evidence to support this claim, nor did we receive a refund. Thus, after paying hundreds of dollars, we are left with nothing.

I have used FTDNA since 2008 to work with Gibson YDNA. It is exciting at the advances being made and to see so many people adding to the group. We are starting to get answers which is a big WIN for me! Definitely the best at what they do best!!!

Based on the reviews from the past 10 years one has to wonder how is Family Tree DNA still in business? They obviously are completely incapable - but supposedly have been in business since 2000. I uploaded my data from 23andMe to Family Tree DNA's system based on MyHeritage/Geni recommendation, hoping to get matches. Instead all I got was a webpage that tells me that it's loading... endlessly. The data never actually loads. Now the question is: Are they selling this genetic data, that comes with names and addresses, to someone? Is anyone investigating this? I'm not saying that they are, just wondering how they actually stay in business with this terrible track record. Everyone who leaves a review here should also contact the Houston, TX Better Business Bureau.

The first test I added to this company was early 2000s. Since then I have added more and learned a lot about DNA testing and family connections. Y700 is now helping a group of us (now at 15) define the family structure in the 1700s and earlier. For this we have needed known male descendants proven from accurate trees, the tests, the support of our group’s name project team and the collaborative input of everyone involved. So outcomes take time, patience and some effort,. The payoffs can be amazing. So I am looking at a couple of other family lines in the hope that some matches may come and eventually want to repeat the successful exercise we are doing at the moment. In searching for real history to match the findings of the DNA results with real historical snippets of information you can learn a more about the history of your ancestors.

Have been a customer of FTDNA for over 5 years now, using their atDNA mtDNA and ydna products for close to 60 people. Am highly satisfied as a customer both with their site, products, service but also how valuable their services are to my genealogy research. Without ydna, I would NEVER get further on my family lines than I’ve been for 30 yrs, due to a courthouse fire which destroyed everything for over 50 yrs of 3 main veins of my family. YDNA saved our families! Thank you FTDNA !! A VERY loyal customer!

Family Tree DNA is the only company that provides the fullest Y-DNA and mitochondrial DNA testing for genetic genealogy practical use. The free surname Y-DNA projects run by volunteers but supported by FTDNA software are extemely valuable for understanding your DNA results and how they fit with your matches. Processing does take time, but it is worth it in the long run. Any issues that I have run into were best resolved via phone call and not e-mail. The benefits I have received from testing with FTDNA, especially the Big Y-700 test, have been well worth the money spent for the test and the patience in waiting for the results to be processed by the lab.

Largest Y-DNA database in the world & best for finding matches to your male paternal ancestors. Big Y-700 is best test & most expensive but I totally recommend it. I have broken 2 different brick walls using my male relatives Y-DNA to research. They also have regular autosomal DNA test, they call "Family Finder" & I love the fact that they accept regular DNA files from most other major DNA testing companies (Ancestry, 23andMe, MyHeritage) for FREE DNA matching! They also have mitochondrial DNA testing for tracing maternal ancestors. They have great tools for genetic genealogy research too. I've only had good experiences with FTDNA for several years & I see the bad reviews? I can say they are under new ownership now.
