A truly disappointing and nebulous response from the HKA that did nothing to explain itself or address what led to its abrupt decision to decertify Genesis Steakhouse, which has been a bedrock of the kosher community in Houston for nearly 10 years. Unless there is a legal reason or agreement with Genesis, which HKA failed to mention, as to why it chose to remain silent on its decision then the Houston Jewish community should resist the temptation to give HKA the benefit of the doubt in its abrupt decision.
Actions speak louder than words and an abrupt decertification (without providing a pathway to recertification) is just as harmful if not more so to the reputation of business owners and to their financial livelihoods than objectively laying out the facts and timeline of the violations that led to this abrupt decision because it did not want to harm the reputation of the merchant. ALL organizations (businesses, schools, agencies, nonprofits, etc.) are fallible and can make mistakes or exercise poor judgment which is why functional and thriving communities depend on transparency and benefit from a system of check and balances to ensure that no organization abuses its power and that justice, fairness, and the welfare of individuals, business owners, and the community is protected. Just as Genesis should be held to account through a system of checks and balances via its customers, kosher agencies, and health agencies, HKA should not be any different. If HKA decides that its policy exempts it from being transparent and that is doesn’t need to answer to outside parties, then the Houston Jewish community must step up and take action to ensure that this phenomenon does not persist, which can lead to further undesirable, sub-optimal outcomes.
A “kosher” outcome is an outcome that ensures that justice and fairness is ultimately carried out and that organizations that feel they are above transparency and answering to the public should face consequences of their own including but not limited to being disrupted by a broader competitive landscape in Houston for gaining trustworthy kosher certification, beginning with the actions taken by the owner of Genesis.

Takes away kosher certification at the whims of personal biases. Tearing down local businesses because of your own issues is disgusting behaviour. And you have the audacity to call yourselves holy men.

Dear Rabbi Nosson Dubin,
I am writing to request that you give Genesis Steakhouse the chance to demonstrate that they meet the necessary kosher standards. They are committed to serving the Jewish community in Houston with integrity, and I believe they are more than qualified to operate as a kosher restaurant.
It is disheartening to see negative remarks made about a hardworking, honest family man. When such claims are made, they not only affect the individual but also their family. As a Rabbi, your words carry weight, and I ask that you allow Genesis Steakhouse the opportunity to prove they are fulfilling the community's needs with care and professionalism.
I also feel that some of your past actions, including the treatment of certain kosher establishments, may reflect a personal bias rather than objective oversight. This approach has led me to believe that it might be in the best interest of the community for you to step down from your position and allow another experienced Rabbi to make decisions that truly reflect the needs and well-being of the Houston Jewish community.
With all due respect, I urge you to reconsider your approach and to consider stepping down from your role to allow for more balanced leadership.

Have a employee who is Jewish and we wanted to celebrate his birthday! Looked everywhere in Houston for a kosher friendly bakery, with no luck! I finally found The Houston Kashruth Association and a sweet lady gave us an answer in less then a second!! We so appreciate you all!!
