Redbox is a video game and DVD rental company based in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. The company is owned by Apollo Global Management and was founded in 2002 at a time when video rental chains were shuttering all across the United States. The idea behind Redbox was to make it easy for people to rent movies and games without the expense of operating retail stores. Instead of retail locations, Redbox offers rentals through red kiosks, which are called Redboxes. Today, Redbox has more than 40,000 kiosk locations throughout the United States. People can also rent from Redbox online and receive rentals through the mail.
