One of my favorite places in Houston. A deep peaceful stillness in the middle of the city. Small circular building with a few huge modern paintings and some benches.
If you’re scared of your own thoughts… don’t go! :)

It's a work of art, a piece of history, and effectively a public monument
Just see it for yourself, lol

The Rothko Chapel is an incredible place—peaceful, moving, and beautifully maintained. Kelly Johnson is the best and was truly great to work with: professional, responsive, and thoughtful throughout. Highly recommend visiting and working with this team.

The Rothko Chapel is the Sistine Chapel of the US, a place to worship minimalist art and for non-denominational spiritual contemplation. The building and paintings are a masterpiece, the landscape architecture is calm and lovely. A must-visit masterpiece if you like contemporary art and architecture, or need a deep place to meditate. No photos inside - you need 5-10 minutes even for your eyes to adjust.

It’s a beautiful place to be in and just meditate. I love how it’s inspired by Rothko. His art works grace the entire chapel

A quiet and somber place to view some examples of Rothko paintings.

The signs warm you to turn off your phone and no photos allowed. It's just an an empty room with some benches.
The kicker is... There are 4, yes four, guards watching over you doing nothing. A total waste of time. It feels some rich guy's prank on the city, which refused his offer to build a place for his obelisk.

Unique place in Houston to visit.
The Rothko Chapel is an interfaith chapel that encompasses accepting of all faith backgrounds. Inside you’ll see gray walls with black frames and in the center wooden benches with a ceiling that’s open.
The entrance is free, but they do ask you don’t take photography or videos to respect the owner’s reservations. You can park in the front of the building area or on the nearby park.
