This is a wonderful hardware store with knowledgeable and helpful staff. I was having trouble opening my car key fob to replace the battery and went in to get a small Phillips head screwdriver. The gentleman at the checkout opened the fob cover and replaced the battery himself. I purchased the battery but he didn't make me buy the screwdriver, which I may not ever need again. Very kind to take the time to help me out!

Friendly and helpful and you find everything you need at reasonable prices without the half hour drive to the big box store. We're regulars!

Truly enjoy stopping by for anything I need. The ladies at the front always greet me as I walk in. The staff I have asked for help are very knowledgeable (something you don’t see at the big chains anymore). I always recommend anyone in the area to give it a try and stop on by!

Second time going here for the same product, both times service seemed like I was a problem to help. custom cut glass. despite a smaller piece of glass it still racked up to about $14 a sqft. Crazy despite being "the cheapest in the area". My partner remarked in the car that he thought that they may be melting their own sand in there. Just unreal that I went back expecting a different experience. I love smaller stores and shop local, but this is too far. Unhelpful and expensive.

My husband and I live in the area and have been shopping at Southland's since 2005.In general, service has always been bad, but it's conveniently located. My husband has refused to shop there for a couple of years now, and sends me instead. But I'm now on the same page.Today I went to buy potting soil. There were 4 employees milling about in the outside lawn and garden area and none offered to help me take the bags of potting soil to my car. I went back 10 minutes later for a larger bag of potting soil, and there were two guys there. I asked if they could please help me put the large bag of potting soil in my car. They looked at each other, one shrugged, and walked over to get it and put it in my car, saying nothing. I thanked him and he replied "uh huh".The experience at Southland's is the complete opposite of what you experience at Bering's. Bering's is a few minutes further, but the general business culture and experience is so much better. I have no idea how the owner doesn't know or see it, as the situation is pervasive and across the board in the store. The only helpful employees I've ever encountered are a couple of older gentlemen who have been very helpful. Otherwise, the cashiers, lawn and garden employees, key and nail/screw employees, and generally all other employees are just rude and unhelpful.

Def not returning. This is just the last time in a series of overpriced experiences. Other stores are actually faster with the drive and uneducated staff than this “helpful mom-pop local store”. Sucks to say but I guess you have to go to a big box now as a montrosian.

This place is ok if you’re white. If you’re not, expect to be mistreated. That’s what it comes down to.The two women cashiers harassed me and acted like I was committing fraud with my own bank card, they pulled it out of the chip reader and asked me for ID bc the sale was “over $100”- when they had me put it back in and enter my pin, of course the reader got confused, they started saying I had already take stuff out to my car and couldn’t pay. They didn’t check anyone else’s ID- all the white men that paraded through the line. I have been there many times and they have never done this to anyone. We have made purchases over $100 here many times. Usually my husband gets his card out of his wallet faster than I can from my purse- he is more white presenting than I am- they have never carded him or given him any trouble.I felt that I was deliberately being made to feel uncomfortable and they were acting like Karens, making up that I was doing something wrong, when really they were acting wrong toward me because of race.Their aim was clear, to publicly embarrass me and make me feel unwelcome, to let me know, people like me are not welcome in this store. It was clearly a micro aggression moment. I left the store crying. It was awful.I am a university professor. I am not rolling around committing bank card fraud at checkouts.I consciously shop at small businesses to make sure money stays in my local economy. I love small hardware stores and try to make sure they don’t go out of business in the face of large box stores. I promote them to my family and friends so they too can support.I will not be shopping here again and you better believe I’ll be sharing my story with people in my network. This place won’t be getting any more of my money or support. They can keep their racism.(There’s one lovely man who helped my husband and I with paint but everyone else ranges from super rude to straight up racist.)

I’ve been here twice and needless to say…I won’t be back. My first visit, one sales associate was very helpful. However, when I got to the register, the cashier never looked up, never greeted me or anything. I ended up completing my purchase with someone else. The next visit, the associate practically gave me a box and told me to look through it. There was nothing friendly or kind about her demeanor in my opinion. I left this store without purchasing anything. I stopped at a nearby store and was told that several people have complained about the customer service here. At least now I know it wasn’t personal. I was referred to Bering’s and had a wonderful experience. I’ll be shopping there even though it is a little further away from my home.

This is a quick place to get urgent needed supplies. However, customer service is lacking. I've gone here several time, because I needed something asap. Today I had to get a can of foam. To check out the clerk just looked at me. Never said anything. He checked me out with out a word. I said thank you, his response, you're welcome. I just paid for an over priced can of foam. Do not buy keys here. I've had to return every key I've made a copy of. We can all do better.

This is my go-to place for every home repair project. They have individual parts, they understand my amateur descriptions of what I need, and they are SO efficient. Very helpful!

There aren't many of these old fashioned neighborhood hardware stores around anymore, especially in in urban areas so try to support them when I can and in return they have gotten me out of a bind many times. They have a lot of harder to find little parts that big box stores consider low volume and don't carry, but they are very competitive on the higher volume stuff too and are deceptively big and it'd save you a trip to the big orange store.

Is there anything this place does not have? Such a great hardware store. Best thing is if you have old parts, they have what you need (as well as the new ones). Everyone is always so friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. I wish we had a store like this in Austin. Stopped in yesterday for a hard to find part when fixing a sink at my mothers and forgot just how much I miss it. So pleasant having friendly helpful people that give quality advice and know what they are talking about.

I was at the register paying for my purchase, when apparently one of the employees misplaced an item. Without hesitation he asked me "where's the multitool that was here?" Basically stopping just short of accusing me of swiping it. When I replied that I knew nothing of which he spoke, he decided to look for it more carefully, upon finding it, he continued without as much as a glance my way. If you're incapable of apologizing when you make a mistake, make certain you're correct next time you confront someone in an accusatory manner.
