How lucky are we that these kind of stores are still around? I visited here while in town and it was such a pleasant experience. They graciously took the time for me to take a deep dive into their pipe tobacco selection and readily answered me about all I wanted to know. Their selection of bulk tobaccos and custom blends really has something for every taste. I left with a bag full of new blends to try plus a couple of cigars. I wish they’d had some of the more recent Cornell & Diehl blends, which I can’t get back home in Germany, but oh well. If you’re in the area make sure to head on over there.

For pipes and pipe tobacco this is the best place in town. So glad I found them.
Was kindly greeted by folks outside the store enjoying cigars and equally greeted inside when I entered. And what a great feeling and how awesome it is to be treated like a returning customer on my first visit.
I came during rush hour, so the traffic was rough, but I must say the moment I walked in that all melted away.
Great selection of loose tobaccos and tins. Nice selection of pipes. Makes it worth the trip.
But again, the real joy was interacting with the owner and hearing her story of how the store progressed over the last 60+ years. Maybe next visit I will have the time to sit and enjoy the company of the folks at the store and puff a bowl.
Thank you very much for the great experience. I will be back.

Fantastic customer service. I was told to come and see Austin about any questions regarding pipe tobacco and they weren't kidding; I got a fully detailed, extremely informative crash course, with all of my questions answered, and my choice to inspect several different "strains" available so I could make the best choice for my purchase.
Then I bought a starting supply for an extremely reasonable price, had him proactively throw in some matches for me since I don't yet have a lighter (which was quite thoughtful and appreciated), and I was all set and good to go in less than ten minutes.
That's how you earn a loyal customer in one simple visit.

I visited while staying in Houston for the week, I'm not a cigar smoker (so can't comment on that side of things) but I hand-roll cigarettes, which turned out to be a bit of a rarity there. This was the only place I came across selling cigarette filter tips for that, and they had a modest but nicely varied selection of loose tobacco. there was such a huge selection of pipe tobacco it made me consider picking that up again, and all the other bits and pieces a smoker could need (including a decent selection of snuff and cigarillos).
I went at the start and end of my trip to stock up on supplies, both the people who served me were super friendly and made me feel welcome in the shop and to the town. I was invited to inspect the tobacco as I pleased before deciding what to purchase and smoking inside was an unexpected novelty! Comfortable seats and AC along with the conversation made buying smokes one of the small highlights of my trip. The staff really know their stuff too - the chap I spoke to the second time knew the relatively obscure UK-based tobacco distributor I buy from at a tobacconists back home. If your smoking tastes extend beyond regular cigarettes this is the place to go.

The re-vamped body of Briar Shoppe, the lounge has much more comfortable seating, and a cleaner, yet more comfortable atmosphere. When I want to work AND indulge, this is my second home ?? the staff is knowledgeable and Bill has a great setup ?? 10/10 recommend. ( byob )

This is a really nice spot. I have been coming to the Briar Shoppe, for at least 5 years now.
I would recommend coming here for all of your pipe related questions and shopping.
Dianne and her brother Bill are both really great people. They both make you feel comfortable and welcome in their home.
Lounge area has definitely improved with more seating and openness.
Definitely will be a lifetime customer and would recommend them to any local Houstonian and out of state folks.

A great mellow experience with great selection and employees and owners who are extremely helpful and friendly. Also the exact kind of interesting conversation you would expect from a great tobacco shop in a movie.
