So much potential here, but its squandered. We attended a conference here. Didn't get the room requested, when we asked about it the guy at the front desk admitted he saw the ground floor room request. He wouldn't change it. Had a "too bad" attitude. First day of the conference we find out all support staff had been let go and we were on our own for coffee and drinks. Rooms are dated, remote for tv didnt work. Spacious rooms but nothing to sit on but the bed. Property is awesome, as well as location on the main plaza street with nice shops and restaurants across the street. Friends said they had same problems with the tv remote and another didnt have hot water. Noisy interstate all night.

Upsetting to pay 150+ a night for a room that doesn't have a microwave or a refrigerator. I can stay at a much cheaper place and have both of those. That is my only complaint.Rooms: Needs microwave and refrigerator

We stayed here when we went to Salado for Oktoberfest. The room was beautiful! We had a balcony that we sat on and relaxed at the end of the night. We will definitely stay here again the next time we want a little trip away!

Gorgeous sprawling place right in the center of town we just happened upon. Lovely man working front desk - an artist himself, we talked art and paintings and pottery for a half an hour. Super helpful, gave me lots of info about art galleries to visit.Beautiful, comfortable room with Saltillo tile floors and top of the line bedding. Lots of privacy. Very large, spacious rooms. Each room has its own entrance - some with balconies, some with terrace - which I love because we travel with our little dog. Lots of places to walk.Love this place. Will stay here again in the future!

Perfect place for a weekend getaway. We went for the Christmas stroll and hit the jackpot with Shady Villa Hotel. We loved the property and the rooms, best shower ever! It is located halfway between Dallas and San Antonio. We are already planning to make this an annual trip!

My sisters planned an overnighter in this charming hotel. We were exploring the town so the amenities or absence of amenities weren't on our list of expectations. We found our room to be charmingly simple, like stepping back into the 50s.The pool area was lovely and quiet at the moment. The poolside bar was open. The attendants were sweet. We took advantage of the cornhole boards and a cocktail. It would have been nice to have meals in the dining area. It is under renovation at this time.I look forward to returning.

The room was huge and the grounds are great with the local park and a local brewery within walking distance. I will say that it was a tad creepy at night and some better exterior lighting by the room entry doors would be wonderful. The main light fixtures hanging in the stairways and PRIVATE balconies seem to be original and are fabulous but just need to be cleaned. The room was clean except the floor next to the night stand seemed to have coffee or hot chocolate spilled on the floor that didn't get cleaned. Overall I would recommend shady villa, it is in a great spot, the rooms are very large and renovated beautifully. The have a bar and restaurant but they were unfortunately closed for our visit.

We have stayed here about 5 or 6 times starting about 4 years ago. It has gone from one of our favorite go to places for a quick trip away from the house to one of those NO GO places you don't go back to! The original staff from the first few trips is long gone and has been replaced by some of the rudest people on earth! We have stayed enough times we like a certain building so we made reservations for it only to be told it was already full..... not a deal breaker for us but we booked well enough in advance it shouldn't have happened. The lady at check in was one of the most miserable human beings I have ever met. We were a few hours early from our check in time and it obviously hacked her off! I guess she chose to punish us because we didn't have a room available until almost 530pm. I had a encounter with a guy from maintenance that was zipping through the parking lot so i stopped to let him on by, well he stopped too and i motioned him on, he then motions me on so i went and as i passed he gave a go to hell look and threw his hands up like i was some kind of idiot, all i was trying to do is be nice. The owners and management better get there stuff together or the place is going to be shut down again like it was. Such a neat place that had it going on that is now falling apart and run by miserable staff. The bad reviews are all accurate. I actually came to read the reviews because its been a year since we last visited and my wife wants to come this weekend and give it another chance, but obviously it hasn't improved.Nearby activities: So close to Barrow Brewing, multiple places to eat. The river is super close! Great location!

The pool was green and closed, and from reading other reviews, it looks to have been that way for at least 3 weeks. The “resort” didn’t have the courtesy to call and let us know that or offer any comps. Also, the restaurant was closed. The room never got below 74 degrees with the ac on full blast (it was barely blowing) and the door staying shut. Because of this, I would say go stay at a normal hotel for 1/2 the price since all the amenities are closed.

Cute property in a great location, but they are having major issues at the moment. I would stay away till they can get their maintenance in order. The pool was green and unusable. The on-site restaurant is closed indefinitely for renovation. The suite we stayed in had a broken shower valve so we could not turn off the water, it was a full on stream not little drip and made the entire bathroom wet not to mention the noise. We had a group of 5 ladies for a Bachelorette weekend and the hotel staff were unwilling to make any conseseson for us, not even comping our resort passes to another nearby resort since we had no amenities available at Shady Villa. We made the best of a bad situation, but it was truly disappointing.

Roaches and Mold!!Many complaints but the roaches, mold and mildew in bath and no sheets for additional bedding were our top ones. Our second family get together here in 18 years. At $250 and $350 a night before taxes, this was unacceptable. This hotel is not changing for the good.Noteworthy details: Very Little Parking

We chose this hotel solely based on our experiences at other bunkhouse hotels which have provided a fun, eclectic and service oriented stay that has kept us coming back. We branched out on this stay and called to book direct with the hotel to secure two rooms next to each other. Upon arrival the lobby was closed and we had to find a staff member and then our rooms were separated and not together as promised. The rooms are cute and very bunkhouse. The pool was murky and no towels were available. I asked about it and they said they would get someone on it. I checked back after our second swim and there were still no towels. On Monday morning at 10am when the pool opens we went to swim with our 4 year old and we’re told it was closed for several hours. Our checkout was 12 so we were not able to use the pool at all on our second day which was a massive disappointment. Customer service was subpar and lackluster and unfortunately we will most certainly not be returning. I really wish the pool could I’ve been cleaned earlier in the morning so paying hotel guests could use it. Big big bummer

We stayed here while visiting family in the area and appreciated the historic and unique qualities of the hotel. Made our stay memorable. Bed and linens were very comfortable. Shower and water pressure was nice. It was handy to have a built-in shelf to stow luggage and also tuck away the cooler we brought with our road-trip snacks next to mini fridge.Loved all the trees and green spaces on the property… made it feel much more tucked away than being adjacent to interstate would otherwise be. We were on the 1st floor of building 200 near the pool.

I must say, my recent experience at the SHADY VILLA HOTEL was nothing short of a nightmare. I had previously enjoyed a pleasant stay, but this time, it was an absolute disaster. Where do I even begin?Let's start with the pool, shall we? Oh, the pool. The once inviting blue oasis turned into a murky green swamp that looked more suitable for hosting a slimy creature convention than for human use. It was clear that the pool hadn't seen any proper maintenance in ages, and I can't help but blame Lyle, the maintenance manager, for his apparent lack of care and professionalism.Speaking of Lyle, his negligence in letting the pool turn into a breeding ground for algae and bacteria is only matched by the astounding incompetence of the general manager. It takes a special kind of clueless idiot to oversee a hotel with such blatant disregard for guest satisfaction and safety. The room I stayed in was a whole new level of revolting. It was so dirty that it could give a landfill a run for its money. The moment my kids stepped foot on the floor, their feet turned black from the accumulated grime. The lack of cleanliness in the room was both shocking and unacceptable. I can only wonder if the housekeeping staff has any idea of what their job entails. And let's not forget about the restaurant, or should I say, the non-existent restaurant. To my surprise, the once well-frequented dining area had been closed down, without any prior notice or alternatives provided for guests. So not only was the stay uncomfortable, but even basic amenities were stripped away. The stark contrast between my previous positive experience and this disastrous one left me feeling utterly deceived and cheated. I can't emphasize enough how much of a letdown this stay was, and I can't imagine ever subjecting myself or my family to such a horrendous ordeal again. In conclusion, the SHADY VILLA HOTEL has truly lived up to its name in the worst possible way. From the green pool to the negligent maintenance manager, clueless general manager, filthy rooms, and closed restaurant, this place is a disgrace to the hospitality industry. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this hotel at all costs. There are far better options out there where you can actually enjoy your stay without regretting your decision later.
