The McNay Art Museum is a beautiful and welcoming place that offers a rich experience of art and architecture. Housed in a Spanish Colonial Revival building from the 1920s, it features stunning details like wrought iron, tiled floors, and grand staircases, making the museum itself feel like a work of art. The museum showcases a diverse collection of modern and old master works, including pieces by Gauguin, van Gogh, Picasso, and Pollock, along with pottery by a Native American female artist. Visitors enjoy exploring the beautifully landscaped grounds, which include sculptures by well-known artists and peaceful water features. The garden courtyard offers a serene outdoor space perfect for relaxing and soaking in nature’s beauty. Many find the atmosphere calming and inspiring, with some noting the friendly, community-like vibe during special events like Second Thursday. Overall, the McNay is a city gem where art, architecture, and nature come together to create a delightful and enriching experience for all visitors.
I grew up going here. I used to ride my bike over and spend hours roaming the art and grounds.
