I would give ZERO STARS I have been trying to cancel this policy since day one and they keep giving me the run around saying I didn’t give them the proper account numbers and still taking money out of my account when I can’t even use the insurance because no drs I use accept them ! Then no one ever answers the phone I’m literally going to have to switch banks or close my bank account so they don’t steal anymore money from me. It’s BS.

This is the absolute worst insurance company that I've ever dealt with!! I was able to call set up a policy for my wife and myself paid the policy with my bank account but when it's time to cancel I can't cancel her policy. So they continued to take money out of my account. I can make the policy, pay for the policy but can't cancel it!! Do not choose these crooks for your insurance needs!!

I have been dealing with American Amicable insurance on a small insurance claim for my mom who passed the second of August. It's been 5 and a half months, hours and hours of phone calls with no answers still. I wouldn't recommend putting your family through this, so please don't buy a policy from them. My mom was on a limited income and it pains me that they took her money and won't pay. They said there is still no time frame of when we would have answers. When you call there is always an hour wait to talk to anyone and then I still have no answers. An extremely bad experience and then going through the loss of a parent. They should feel ashamed of themselves.

If you have a policy and they call you trying to convert it to another one DONT DO IT! They told me it wouldn’t change anything from my original plan. It did. They lied like usual.

Stop calling me! I cancelled my policy and American Amicable have been calling me NON STOP for the past 2 months. Each agent I speak to I tell them to take me off the list and stop calling me and they still call. Worst life insurance customer service. Do not sign up with them.

This is the worst life insurance company on earth. Don’t trust their agents. They lie and tell you you have coverage that you don’t. I was told I had whole life of $26,000 only to find out 2 years later that I only had $20,000 total with $10,000 being whole and $10,000 being accidental life insurance. I never received my policy by mail after requesting it multiple times through the agent who sold it to me and then he quit accepting my calls all together. You can never get the company in the phone. The number doesn’t even work half of the time and then you leave messages and they don’t return your messages. You can’t make an online profile without help from someone at the company without a policy number and with no policy you have no policy number. I found all of this out by contacting another agent who happened to sell other life insurance policies through other companies and could see my policy. I’m going to have to change my bank to stop the payments to them because you can’t get ahold of the company to cancel with them. DO NOT BUY A POLICY FROM THIS LYING AND UNAVAILABLE COMPANY WHATEVER YOU DO! Go with Americo or Mutual of Omaha.

They took $130 a month from me. When I lost my job I tried to cancel and retrieve my funds. I filled out the needed forms for both actions. I was supposed to get more than $600 disbursed. 2 weeks later when they sent the bank account of an unemployed and homeless person into the negative by pulling another premium I called. I was then also told there was no funds to be disbursed. They robbed me. Stay away and if you have an account, close it. They’re robbing you too.

American Amicable Life Insurance Company of Texas has been a terrible experience—stay far away! When I was a young service member, I believed I was signing up for a mutual fund. Unfortunately, I later discovered that I had actually been enrolled in a whole life insurance policy instead.
I’ve been contributing $100 each month, with $24 going toward management fees and $18 covering the base policy cost. The remainder supposedly builds the policy’s cash value. However, if I cancel before the 18-year mark, I’ll lose a significant portion of that accumulated amount.
This experience has been incredibly disappointing and feels deceptive. I strongly advise anyone considering this company to read every detail carefully and avoid making the same mistake I did.

A man called me over 20 times about Someone else’s policy. And argued with me for 10 minuets about a policy that did not belong to me. Don’t use this company. Very unprofessional and rude

I wouldn’t give them a star if it didn’t make me. My mom passed in July 2025 from a very aggressive form of cancer that caused a hemorrhaging stroke with brain bleed in June 15, 2025 and by July 29 2025 she was gone. This company has told us that because she passed in the 1st year of her whole life policy they have told us do a review. Fine, we were good with that. But here it is October and it takes me hours to talk to someone when I check status. I sent everything in quickly and I’m at the point of getting attorney to deal with this. They won’t give a straight answer. Horrible company

My mom recently passed in September, going to be honest I was extremely nervous after reading these reviews, but I have to say customer service was very helpful. Claim filed I received the check just over three weeks after it was filed. Overall very pleased with this company. Absolutely no issues with filing the claim or receiving a payout.

This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a professional company of any kind!!! Please for the sake of your loved ones do not choose to do business with American Amicable!! I wish I didn't have to touch a star in order to post this review.

My experience with American Amicable’s life insurance claims department has been extremely disappointing. My mother passed away in December 2024, and it has now been nearly a year since I filed her claim. I promptly returned all requested documents as soon as I received them in June 2025, yet each time I’ve called for updates, I’ve been met with vague answers and long delays.
When I recently followed up, the representative I spoke with responded to my concern about the year-long wait by saying, “Good thing it’s almost over then.”
That level of insensitivity was shocking — especially from someone who works in life insurance claims, where compassion and professionalism should be standard.
My mother was dear to me, and I’ve done my best to be patient through the process, understanding the contestability review and the time it can take. But no grieving family should have to chase updates for nearly a year, only to be met with dismissive remarks.
I hope American Amicable takes this feedback seriously and invests in better training for empathy, communication, and accountability. The people on the other end of these claims aren’t just “cases” — they’re families trying to find closure and honor their loved ones’ legacy.
